Alyx's story spoiler
Next part
Seeing the unspoken question in his friends' eyes, he quickly added, — I’ll tell you later.
— Alright, — Steven waved it off. — What’s your first class?
— History of Design.
— Let’s go. We’ll sit through it with you, and then our own classes will start.
They moved toward the entrance of the main academic building. Leo stayed between his friends, trying to be as inconspicuous as possible. He kept his hands in his jean pockets, but that only made him look more awkward than if he had just walked normally.
Alyx followed behind them. Students cast curious glances their way, but everyone was used to Leo usually keeping to himself and staying on the sidelines. So, in a way, this might have actually worked in his favor—people could just assume his new look was another odd quirk of the eccentric guy.
When they reached the third floor, where their classroom was located, Alyx suddenly stopped. Leo noticed and halted as well, turning to look at her.
— What’s wrong? — Steve asked.
— I don’t know, — Leo said slowly. — Alyx…?
She was staring off to the side, her gaze piercing either through the hallway or through the wall itself, as if sniffing something out. Her posture was tense.
— Go on, — she said, not taking her eyes off whatever had caught her attention. — I’ll join you later.
Still eyeing the area with suspicion, she remained in place—an unusual behavior for an immortal being. The group hesitated but eventually entered the classroom, taking seats in the back row where they could whisper without drawing the professor’s attention. Leo didn’t like being in the spotlight, especially now—he didn’t want people noticing his hands.
— What was that about?
— No idea. Alyx sensed something and stayed behind to check it out.
Even though his friends were slowly getting used to the idea of Alyx's existence, all of this still sounded bizarre.
A few minutes later, after the professor had started his usual—boring—lecture on design and its applications, Alyx returned.
She moved with precision, as if she already knew exactly where they were sitting. Reaching them, she muttered,
— We need to talk later. Stay in the classroom after the lecture.
She looked tense, her ears twitching as she listened for something. The tip of her tail flicked restlessly from side to side.
Leo gave a barely perceptible nod, thinking to himself, Alright, hoping that she could hear his thoughts.
His thoughts were interrupted by Steve.
— We got a graffiti gig tonight. You in?
— Of course! — Leo whispered back, remembering how much his shopping trip had cost him earlier. — Do you have the paint?
— Yeah. — Steve waved him off casually. His family, like Emily’s, was well-off, so expenses like that were never a big deal to him. They tried not to make a big deal out of it, knowing Leo would feel uncomfortable. He always refused any direct financial help from them.
Sometimes, he even suspected there weren’t any real commissions—they were just setting things up to pay him under someone else’s name. Except when clients approached him directly.
They waited until the lecture ended, pretending to take their time packing up so they could stay behind. Leo turned his chair around to face Alyx while still being able to talk to his friends without twisting his head.
Alyx paced back and forth, her tail flicking impatiently as she listened to something only she could hear. Once she noticed they were all ready to listen, she stopped.
— We need to be careful, — she said. — There’s a demon somewhere in this building or nearby. I think it knows we’re here, but not necessarily. Without a full transformation, I’m hard to detect.
— Could it attack us right here, right now? — Leo asked, alarmed.
— I doubt it. But demons have nothing to lose, so being reckless isn’t out of the question. They usually avoid exposing themselves in public.
— And if it does attack? What would that look like?
— Worst case? — Alyx glanced at him grimly. — It could take full control of its host and tear through half the building, injuring other students.
— Best case?
— It drains its host dry and moves on to find another victim.
— That’s the best case? What happens to the host?
Alyx raised an eyebrow, surprised by the question after everything he had already seen. She simply ran a finger across her throat in a slicing motion.
Leo froze for a moment, then quickly translated the conversation for his friends, knowing they couldn’t hear her.
Emily gasped and leaned back slightly.
— So what are our options? — Steve asked.
There was no need to repeat the question—unlike them, Alyx had heard everything. Leo turned to her, waiting for an answer.
— I’d suggest running away and never coming back, but you already rejected the OnlyFans option, and you’re going to need money and a career in the future.
We could leave now and wait outside, then track whoever it is and follow them. That way, we can fight in a quiet place where no one will see us.
Or we can take the risk and continue as usual, hoping that even if the demon senses us, it won’t want to endanger its host by doing something reckless inside the university.
— From what distance can you be sure who it is?
— Hard to say. — Alyx frowned, ears flicking backward in frustration. — Technically, any distance… but I need a direct line of sight. Even if it were standing right outside that door— — she gestured toward the classroom exit — I wouldn’t know exactly who it was. Just that it’s there.
That’s how I found you in the hospital, actually. I sensed demonic activity in that space and felt the death of the host—meaning you. But I had no idea you were a kid, or how tall or old you were.
Lucky for you. If I had known, maybe I wouldn’t have bothered showing up.
Her expression was a strange mix of smug amusement and irritation.
— Anyway, that doesn’t matter now.
Leo quickly summarized everything for his friends. This back-and-forth was starting to get on his nerves.
Surprisingly, Emily was the first to speak.
— Let’s just go to class. You need a profession. — She declared firmly. — If this demon is a student, that means it’s been here for a while. If it wanted to blow its cover and destroy everything, it would’ve done it already.
— Can your friend beat it one-on-one if you face it after class?
Leo turned to Alyx. She nodded confidently.
— No problem. — Her tone was almost lazy.
Leo relayed the nod to Emily.
— Then I don’t think we’re in much danger right now. Even if you run into it here in the university.
By the time they left the classroom, it was already midday, and the students were heading to the cafeteria for lunch. After that, they’d have to split up for different lectures.
When they reached the cafeteria on the first floor, everyone grabbed a bit of different food. Leo always tried to take a little more than the others—but in a way that wouldn’t attract attention. That way, he could save on food at home, either for breakfast or dinner. And whatever he picked was always more calorie-dense than what his friends chose.
What surprised him was how Alyx moved through the crowd of students. With her height and massive tail, she should have had trouble navigating the cramped space. Of course, she could just phase through people, and they’d never even know. But instead, she walked normally, almost playing with the space around her—either subtly pushing it aside or weaving through it like it naturally bent to her presence.
They took seats at the edge of a table near the windows, hoping no one would sit with them. The cafeteria was a large hall filled with rows of tables pushed together, leaving narrow aisles in between. The windows stretched from about shoulder height all the way to the ceiling, flooding the space with natural light, making artificial lighting unnecessary.
They spoke quietly, discussing plans for the evening and the upcoming job. Leo sat at the very end of the table, in the farthest corner of the cafeteria, where as few people as possible could see him.
"Is this how I’ll have to act from now on? Always hiding?" he thought. But then he smirked—after all, he’d already spent most of his life avoiding people whenever possible.
Suddenly, a smug, overly self-assured guy approached them.
Alyx immediately jumped up, dropping into a combat stance.
It was pointless, of course. She couldn’t attack a demon while it was still inside a human body.
Leo twisted around in surprise, accidentally bumping into Steve, who in turn knocked into Emily. Her plate of food slipped from her hands and crashed onto the floor. For a brief second, the surrounding tables fell silent.
But people were used to Leo’s weird behavior. The usual background noise of the cafeteria soon resumed—though now accompanied by a few hushed whispers and stolen glances.
"They’re probably gossiping about why this guy is even talking to us," Leo thought.
The newcomer was one of the campus rich kids. He never associated with people like them, always surrounded by beautiful girls or other rich guys.
— Tell your cat to chill. — he drawled lazily, amusement dripping from his voice.

You've asked for a plus, so... here you have it: "+" (in words: "plus")
As far as the story goes, I am mostly looking forward to Leo getting into Alyx's full form and seeing what they can truly do together but I also want to get to know more of their lore, the "demon"'s behaviour... In short, I am looking forward to next part(s).
