I figured it's one of those things that happens in comics sometimes, the next panel will show who it was, clear it right up. Movies do that sometimes, too, where dialogue for a scene will start before the visual transitions over, you know? First shot after the switch is usually the new speaker, so you get an establishment of who you were hearing, or reading, in this case.
It's a film editing term that describes a kind of scene transition, in which the audio of the next scene starts playing over the footage of the current scene as it's ending.
In this case, we're "hearing" (reading) Clay's dialogue over the final shot of the scene (Casper working the coffee machine and looking back at Junip through the corner of his eye).
The opposite (footage of the next scene starts playing "early" while the audio of the previous scene is still going on) is called an "L-cut".
