They must have pissed off the villager that they have to defend themselves. Maybe they accidentally kicked their chicken? or stole something? or they just straight up being hated by them because they look different? Ari with her magical abilities do make them think she is a witch in which is punishable by burn to death. Der also has been known to steal valuable things before but the words of it might have not reach them yet. Anyway, trying to convince them they mean no harm seems to go nowhere. So they have to resort to more "alternative" way.
