In his former life, Bookkeeper was an aspiring writer who worked at a bookstore. As a dragonet he had many grand ideas for stories but lacked the skill to execute on them, and while his skills would develop as he grew older, so too would his creativity diminish. As an adult, Bookkeeper found it increasingly hard to visualize his stories and come up with new ideas, made worse by his high personal standards for originality. Even surrounded by stories he simply couldn’t come up with anything he deemed good or original.
Eventually, Bookkeeper booked a trip to the coastal home of the SeaWings, hoping that a change of scenery would help stimulate his creative process. He boarded a small passenger plane with eleven other passengers and spent most of the flight trying to think up story ideas to no avail. Suddenly, his (often forgotten) foresight powers kicked in, giving him bizarre visions of himself being played with by a giant dragonet. Bookkeeper had no idea what to make of this vision, and only managed a shocked, confused look on his face before everything went dark.
Suffice to say Bookkeeper was quite terrified at first upon realizing he’d been turned into little more than a small plastic toy version of himself, gifted to the kindly SkyWing dragonet Auburn for his eleventh birthday. Unable to move or speak and seemingly the only one with any memory of his past life as a real dragon, he would have to get used to the simple life of being a toy.
In time, though, he found this new reality of his rather enjoyable. As a toy he naturally found great pride and fulfillment in bringing joy to Auburn and his little sister Jasper. He was well looked after, and best of all he could experience the imaginary scenarios he was played in as if they were real! It was like he was living out the books he’d read in his past life, and Auburn’s creativity really inspired him too.
Maybe he wasn’t a real dragon anymore, but at least as far as toys are concerned he has it pretty good!
A very quick ref I did for a character I brainstormed for a story idea WholesomelyChaotic and I have been brainstorming together for a bit. He's one of the ones who got stuck with a goofy expression.
