Goodbye Petey. Good dog, best friend, amazing guide to the very end. April 30 2012 - April 19 2025
Edit: Thank you all very much for the continued comments and condolences, I really appreciate them. I should however make it clear that Petey was not a pet dog. She was my third Seeing Eye dog and my partner for 11 years. There were almost no days we weren't together. She took me everywhere, from the stage of my college graduation, to Washington DC, to several concerts, and she pushed me away from cars that would have otherwise killed us both. I've had pet dogs and they are absolutely wonderful, no question! But Petey was in a class all her own that I would appreciate being recognized. Her being gone is like missing a limb, she went to work just two days before passing. It's hard to fathom even going outside without her right now.
Switched the pic to a good day for her, which was Wednesday. Seeing her very last day is too much, so here she is chilling in the sun, having a nice old lady nap. <3

As much as pets are wonderful, she was not a pet. Petey was my third guide dog and went everywhere with me every day for 11 years. She pushed me out of the way of a truck that would have otherwise hit me and was more chill when we had to go on planes than I was. She even worked just a couple days before she passed and dove into that harness with her usual joy even though she was sick. I feel so lost without her right now.
I'm afraid to get a guide dog right now. Even with having Cats, which is 3.
I HAVE noticed... All three have lead me to the kitchen. One points to my meds, another comes to me when I'm at my lowest, and the Lubu cheers me up when he is able.
He also helps me lift weights.
Once its time for me to have a guide dog... I will be sure to care for them and I hope as amazing as you have.

Guide dogs are wonderful but you really have to want them. They're not cheap and the public is weird about them. If you can handle picking up poop fresh a couple times a day and think you can deal with strangers telling you about their dead pets, you're ready. :D
Petey was my third guide and even though it breaks my heart to lose her and it was devastating losing the other two (even Oscar, who went back to the school because we were such a bad match) I know I will be going back for another dog. None of them can ever be replaced but each one brings so much to my life.

Living in a small 1 bed, UPSTAIRS, which I know I shouldn't be but this apartment is cheaper at the moment T.T
Once things get better life wise and I have a bigger place. Eyes are going out badly and quickly. It is something I will have to think of. For now... I have kitties reminding me to take my meds.
