Ch'um Nich (choom-neech, "Pumpkin Flower") is a seller of atole in the (fictional) Classic Maya city of Lakamte'. She is in her 30s or early 40s, married, and has children. She is smart and has good social sense, and has a reputation as an open mind. She is friends with Juun Ik', a coyote potter who operates the stall next to her in Lakamte''s market.
Some notes: ch'um (pumpkin) is not attested in Classical Mayan as far as I can tell, but is the word in Ch'orti', the Classical language's closest living descendant. (The names of Maya commoners are virtually entirely lost to us, so I can only hope this name would have made sense!) Her name isn't spelled entirely correctly– the first glyph is the syllable "chu", rather than the ejective "ch'u", a substitution I made because we do not currently know the syllabic glyph for "ch'u". Her clothes are based predominantly on the Chiik Naab murals from Calakmul– the best known primary source (that I know of) for what Classic Maya merchants looked like. When I couldn't figure out what I was looking at, I also referenced Daniel Parada's information sheets on Maya clothing. Note that I'm not a historian, and some artistic liberties or mistakes are inevitable.
