Hiya everyone^^ I just finished working on this 1/35 scale Abram tank. Been a while since I have done a tank at this scale but I wanted to do a modern main battle tank for a change and also add some lore to the Magna-Verse^^
I hope everyone likes the model and lore attached to this :D Have a good one.
.......
After the armed intervention when it comes to the War in Ukraine where both Ukraine and Russia tried to get Magnum to fight on their behalf, even trying to resort to bribing the mystic. As a result Magnum attacked both sides, destroying two key areas in just 13 minutes with Sabrina leading an attack in Ukraine and Annebelle when it comes to the strike in Russia at the same time. This would lead to the end of the Ukraine War and both Ukraine and Russia to sign the Iron Pact, turning them into states of Magnum's forming Iron Covenant.
After this was accomplished numerous vehicles were turned to be added to Magnum's use, the Abrams being just one of many of Western designs due to the given aid alongside the Russian examples. Of the tank designs Magnum was most interested in the Abrams and thus as High-Errant had the Abrams tested and fully examined to be compared to his version of the Panther tank. Once this was done with Magnum himself inspecting every part and in the tanks operating them during simulations he found that while the tank was indeed impressive it would likely never enter full production for the Iron Covenant.
There are a few reasons why this choice was made. First was the combined turbine engine and transmission system, while granting a high-power to rate ratio the main concern was mechanical failure and ease of possible repair in the field if something went wrong. The next part was the high fuel consumption rate due to this, meaning the best way to counter the Abrams is not to face the tank but cut it off from fuel supplies and let the short operational time run it's course and cripple the tanks endurance.
While there was debate about replacing the system and fixing the issues among the ranks of the Iron Order, there were more issues. Given the tank was designed purely for war on Terra and not the wider universe it could have issues, it did perform well during the First Solar Crusade on Mars due to the terraformed atmosphere caused by the enemy forces but that was an exception. Furthur more and the biggest one was production, before Magnum had gone to Terra to claim his homeworld his Panther was already in full production and put through numerous trials to ensure it can operate in a wide range of enviroments. In addition to this by this point over 70,000 Panther's had already been constructed with more automated production facilities being built. Also given the Panther's armament is more advanced given Magnum's access to better tech and easier to maintain the Abrams was not deemed fit to justify upgrading and reworking it to replace the Panther overall.
"I do not doubt the Abrams, it has served my country well since it was born in the 80's. It's armor, firepower and features are top notch, but for it to enter full service there would need to be a great number of changes and reworks for it to suit future crusades. The biggest concerns being it's turbine engine and transmission hybrid system, while this can be fixed while retrofitting it with the engine and transmission in the Panther, many parts would take some time is making sure the tank can operate is harsher enviroments or if the situation called for it the empty enviroment of space itself. Given the Panther already has full production with more being set up and built plus already has been proven there is no where near enough to justify phasing it out in-favor of the Abrams. It may see limited production at best with some retrofits, but it wont replace our Panther." -High-Errant Magnum after conducting all possible expirements, trials and combat tests.
After this process was done, all the Abrams tanks in Magnum's possession had their hybrid engine-transmission systems replaced with those in the Panther, giving them the same power-to-weight ratio but giving them a better operational time and range due to the lower fuel consumption rate, plus the Panther's engine given it can run on any fuel source helps greatly with logistics. While it is possible that the Abrams could see intersteller use, it would likey never replace the set in stone Panther already in widespread deployment.
Matter a fact after looking at the other tanks on Terra, the Leopard 2 earned the most favor given it followed a lot of the pattern Magnum had set with the Panther being more modular and easier to maintain and after investigating in trials and with fairly little re-tooling the Leopard 2 can become an interstellar serving tank. But like with the Abrams this could be unlikely given that factories for the Panther were and already are in place.
