Well, it's pretty clear to me of how invested Virmir is to Suzocon-sama.

Why wouldn't  virmir be? Not only may he be one of the biggest BBEGs in the series he's also the most interesting of the villains, and Vir really did his homework. If there was a hall of fame for kitsune villains Suzocon would be right in there.

Admiral Shokaku Yamamoto - Personally, as I am a kitsune myself, I will look forward to seeing such a hall of fame for kitsune villains AND learning HOW Suzocon-sama died. But that's just me.

Adm. Yamamoto: Look up Tamamo-no-Mae sometime. She was a nine-tailed nogitsune that poisoned an emperor, started Japan's largest civil war, and cursed a rock to kill all who touched it, a rock that Shinto followers won't touch to this day. Suzokon-kyō only wishes he were Tamamo-no-Mae.

After reading about her, "Tamamo-no-Mae", on Wikipedia, I am now disturbed by this nogitsune's past and actions. Her deception skills kind a reminds me of when we first met Roko Kirihoko, ArchTeryx.

Well, all kitsune have deception skills in the foiklore, it's the thing they are best known for. Roko was using his skills for relatively harmless thievery until he screwed up and body-swapped Saida-hime and Raybrand-san. Elder kaibutsu like Suzokon-kyō and Tamamo-no-Mae are said to be very rare indeed.

But Roko is rapidly evolving toward being a zenko-kitsune. He took responsibility for his actions and is trying to fix what he broke, and he has saved both Brand and Saida on more than one occasion. He even tried to warn them about Suzokon-kyō and blew Suzokon's cover as a "2-tailed" kitsune. The irony is, while he is very young, were he a classic Shinto kitsune, his actions would be noticed by Ō-Inari and the gates to far, far higher rankings than even Suzokon could hope to achieve would open up to him. Suzokon-kyō wants to be a god. Roko-san might actually achieve it, far in the future.

If they can rescue him in time.

Admiral Shokaku Yamamoto - Given what Suzokon-kyō is trying to do, he INHUMANELY turns other kitsunes to create his tails. Coupled with the fact that Suzokon-kyō is trying to turn Roko-san into his FINAL tail.

Worse. A giant ball of Kitsunebi (Foxfire). That IS a powerful kitsune ability and Taran-ouji is having a VERY bad day.

Summon Materia: Inari no Kitsunebi!

That was not any rock. That was a freaking fireball absolutely maxed out and propelled straight out of the realm of the kami. THAT is an 8th dan move for a Yao-kyo.

But there's still one player that's gonna be seriously pissed off her son just got incinerated, dead or not.

It's what Taran should have done. Should have kept bombarding Suzocon with enough lightning to destroy the entire island while he had the chance.

Still, I wouldn't count Taran out yet.

Which is originally what I thought the quetz would do. Send in the army, led by Taran-ouji or Vetra-jou, and hit his shrine with a full powered fusillade until that shrine was dust, defenses or not.

Instead they send Taran-ouji, and while he's the the heaviest artillery they have, Suzokon-kyō, as we've seen, is a powerhouse demigod in his own right. He really is like a particularly cocky martial arts master, and he just hit Prince Shock Jockey with everything he had. Dead or alive, Taran is gonna be feeling THAT for a while. And he didn't even use (save for his shield) his arcane artifacts!

Well, Suzocon fodderized their soldiers. Sending any more in is just feeding the meat grinder.

They did have a ranged attack - just not as big as Taran's. The ones that got mulched did so by trying to engage Suzocon in melee - right where he's strongest. He's even using his monster kitsunebi no tama Doomsday attack to smack something close to melee range.

But they decided to just send Taran, or he took it upon himself to deal with what he considered an insignificant pest. He just learned different, and how.

Fireball hitting water definitely would reduce damage it can deal and since it meteor probably very easy dodge especially considering how long it took move to land.

Taran will probably emerge being the first of the two demi-gods to look "Scruffed up", but by the end I hope they're both a bloody pulp.

That's not fire, per se. It's more of a spiritual energy of destruction. Stronger the kitsune, the more deestructive it is.

And the theme for "Mortal Kombat" just started playing in my head.

Time will tell soon enough whether this was the FF9 equivalent of Meteor, Comet, or Doomsday.

If it had been the opposite, the damage would've been something like 12, 15, 11, etc.

That would truly be poetic justice since he's the one that trashed her underwater kingdom in the first place. She might still be cheesed at the fact Suzucon still stands, though. He's the one demigod she will not mess with.

He’s doing what Taran should have done, and that’s making sure he is done with a follow up. Probably should do that a few more times to be sure.

There's enough time in between his first hit and this that he could've moved away under the water. Which may be why the author chose to have him crash there.

A lot of that would work fine with a mortal being but he was fighting someone of equal power. And he finally got serious enough to use his max power attacks on said demigod.

Indeed, but we still don't even know if he's using his full power or not, or if this is still just only a fraction of what he's capable of (though given the aura I'd say it is possible this is him using his full power or at least a decent chunk of it, compared to before where we saw him toying with his prey while keeping most of his tails hidden. And unlike before, here he isn't playing around)

Yeah. He's got all 8 tails out, and he's charged up his kitsunebi to full power - you can see the uzumaki fireballs above his tails. Seems he only does that under two circumstances: When he wants to scare the hell out of you, or when he is ready to unleash the full power of the kami. That IS his 8th dan (8th degree) black belt move.

My headcanon is still that he was once a zenko - noble - kitsune, but went bad like all the other demigods. Calling giant kitsunebi no tama from the heavens is a pure Ō-Inari type of move and not something you'd expect out of a mere nogitsune, however many tails they have. That's Tenko-kitsune - Divine Fox - level power.

Roko-san did say that, yes. Generally, there are two ways for a kitsune to gain tails, rank, and power. They can either align with Ō-Inari, goddess of rice, agriculture, industry, and foxes, or they become nogitsune, evil or wild foxes. I have a summary chart of a lot of the folklore that basically says that nogitsune gain tails by age (and don't gain as much power with them), but that zenko-kitsune gain tails by great deeds, miracles, as Roko says. In many ways, Suzocon-sama has always acted like a zenko-kitsune; wanting to create life is a noble and creative endeavour. But somewhere along the long, it all got twisted and corrupted, and instead of turing into a Divine Fox, he ended up H.P. Lovecraft's Re-Animator.

And yes that's how I thought. It's easy to imagine how, for example, bringing people back to life would've been seen as a noble and heroic deed, or even just bringing life into the world, but over time he became obsessed with it, especially since it seems he hasn't been able to perfect his methods, facing failure after failure, likely not taking it too well, especially with how far he's come and how much he's accomplished (having accomplished so many godly feats, finally having one that would be his magnum opus, one that would grant him his final tail, only to repeatedly fail... it'd drive anyone obsessive and mad...)

Yeah I believe so, and Roko mentions they get their first few just by living long enough, but after that it becomes harder since they have to earn them

O-Inari traditionally for heroic kitsune, age for evil kitsune. Age earned tails boost power less but they still boost it.

But the ultimate goal of both zenko (good) and yako (evil) kitsune are to get nine tails. Then they become gods, and shed.their physical forms.

That seem be case maybe it was after encounter with Puppetmaster that Suzocon became more evil especially his obsession with recreating life and naming factor. It quite clear he lacks the understanding needed for his project so more likely he began his research after encountering existence of such a power.

What, you're saying he's not the Puppetmaster‽ What a twist that would be! (I'm serious. Everyone's thinking he's the Puppetmaster right now. On the other hand, that would be perfectly in line with what we've come to expect from Virmir.)

The Puppetmancer might not be Suzocon but I'd say he is well related to him. Perhaps the Puppetmancer was this world's Tamamo-no-Mae -- a god-kitsune that was taken down but cursed everyone hunting him before he died, and left a LOT of wreckage behind.
