■ Global changes:
- Now 90% of the mod is data-driven. A lot of work was done to rewrite the ENTIRE code. For you, this means that you can now create your own new types of dragons with any models, any new skills, any new growth stages and any new body types. If you did not like the small variety or balance of dragons, now you can fix it yourself! In addition, data-driven also means that most configs are now unavailable as before. To change most parameters, you will now have to create datapacks, and not just use configs.
- The existing 3 types of dragons have been updated. They received new skills, improved animations, a new growth stage and many other little things. New dragons are not planned for official addition, but you can create them yourself!
- Completely redesigned all GUI. The inventory, skills, editor and all other interfaces have received a new look, a more convenient button layout and many new tips, which are designed to minimize the need to access the external wiki.
- The End has been reworked. Now dragons will appear on their own unique platforms. For killing an ender dragon, a punishment in the form of a Mark will be imposed, which does not allow you to use the Spin skill. When falling into the void, you will no longer be teleported to the overworld anymore, so be careful! Using the Primordial Anchor, the player can easily teleport to distant islands and find two new structures there. In one you will find a little lore and Dragon Soul, and in the other the Spin skill. You can store all of your dragon progress in the dragon soul and even transfer it to another player.
- Added 3 new development paths for the player: Evil, Good and Hunter. The system with punishment for evil dragons has been completely reworked. Added castles, structures with unique loot and keys, new residents and new dragon hunters. For human players, weapons and enchantments have also been added that will allow you to fight the dragon more effectively.
- Lots of achievements for training, tips and just joy.
- +A million other changes that are best experienced by yourself. This update has been in progress since July 2024 and we hope you like it. We welcome your feedback and bug reports.
■ Data driven:
-All of the important mechanics in DS have been completely rewritten to be data driven (dragon stages, dragon species, dragon body types, etc...) and use a JSON format to define their behavior
-Users can author custom content, all the way up to creating their own dragon species with custom abilities, penalties, and even a custom model with their own animations and textures
-This is a *massive* change to the codebase, and many longstanding bugs/issues have been resolved as a result. Be prepared for a lot of old configs to be missing, as the control for them is now done through datapacks
-If you want to see the possibilities, try the new Griffin Survival addon!
■ Refactored the royal chase mechanics. The player will now instead get a "hunter omen" effect for harming/killing villagers, dragon hunters, or iron golems. If you have "hunter omen":
-Dragon hunters and iron golems will attack you
-Villagers will automatically run away from you
-You will be unable to trade with villagers, but if you right click on them you can steal from them instead (with a cooldown)
-When you meet the Ambusher, you may get into trouble.
■ New Dragon Skills:
-Cave dragons can now melt food with their new breath and give fire protection to their friends.
-Sea dragons now have even more vision features. For example, highlight hidden ore to all!
-Forest dragons can now give the Hunter effect and Haste not only to himself, but also to everyone around him. Its breath now has two types: Forest Breath and Sun Breath. With the help of Sun Breath, it can grow plants, turn potatoes into poisonous ones, and replace blocks of dirt with rarer options.
-Some skills may seem new, but in fact, these features have been moved to a separate skill instead of a hardcode.
■ Dragon Hunters:
-Ambusher
-The ambusher spawns in a similar way to an Illager scouting party. Looking for players with Hunter Omen.
-Griffin
-A flying creature that is always by the Amusher's side. The Ambusher will summon one when attacked. A griffin can damage a dragon's wings.
-Spearman
-Basic melee attacker with increased range. Can also promote into a Leader with a special item.
-Knight
-Hunter General. Very fast and able to ban dragon magic.
-Hounds
-Dogs imposing slowdown on enemies. Some of them have unique names that patreon players gave in discord.
■ Added a new villager types:
- Hunter Leader
-Runs away from the player (similar to Villagers) and has some special trades available. He can be created if you give a promotion to a Spearman.
-Dragon Rider
-Sells some special enchantments and keys, and buys various dragon commodities.
■ Added several new structures:
-Hunter's castle
-The castle is home to many of the different hunters, including the Knight and Leader. Can buy a map to it from the Cartographer villager (or murder them to steal the map!).
-Dragon skeletons
-Dragon skeletons will spawn throughout the world. Destroy them to get star dragon bones.
-Dark/Light/Hunter vaults
- 30+ vault structures that are statues of various dragon species. The vaults need special keys of their respective type. The Dark key can be obtained from killing the Hunter Knight, the Light key can be obtained from trading with the Dragon Rider, and the hunter key can be obtained from trading with the Hunter Leader.
-End Structures
-New structures in the end, where the Dragon Soul item is located and an escape back to the overworld
-New platforms for spawning different types of dragons and teleporting to distant islands without killing the Ender Dragon
-New way to get Spin and Wing skill
■ UI tweaks:
-New "Dragon Species" screen that shows what food is edible for your dragon species, the penalties for being your species, and various other pieces of information
-All GUI textures have been completely redrawn.
-The dragon in the inventory screen will no longer fully rotate when moving the cursor. Instead, only the head of the dragon will move
-Closing the initial dragon altar without making a choice will unlock a new button in the inventory screen to re-open the menu later
-Emotes tab moved
-There is a keybind to open each of the different UI screens from DS
■ Beacon changes:
-Dragon Beacons no longer require silk touch to be mined.
-To activate a beacon, you need the item Beacon Activator.
-What effect the beacon has depends on which dragon activated it.
-The right mouse button can be used to buy the effect (you need to have enough experience) for a long period of time.
-If you want an effect by area, you need to set the Memory Block.
■ New misc items:
-Dark/Light/Hunter keys (to unlock their respective vaults)
-Spearman Promotion. Can use it to promote a Hunter Spearman to a Hunter Leader.
-Dragon Soul. Can use to store your dragon's characteristics in an item to restore later.
■ New armors:
-Light/Dark Dragon Armor. Can be crafted with their respective smithing templates, which can be obtained in the new vault structures.
-Armor trims are now supported for dragon armor.
■ New weapons:
-Partisan (iron/diamond/netherite). A spear that is wielded by the Hunter Spearman. You can wield it too!
■ New light_dragon enchantments:
-Unbreakable Spirit (Legs): Reduces incoming debuffs by 1 level.
-Aerodynamic Mastery (Chest): Reduces flight stamina cost.
-Sacred Scales (Boots): Has a chance to reduce incoming damage.
-Combat Recovery (Head): When you take damage, has a chance to apply Regeneration to yourself.
-Mark of Compassion (all) - You deal reduced damage to dragon hunters and villagers
■ New dark_dragon enchantments:
-Blood Siphon (Head): Has a chance to apply Blood Siphon to the enemy when you get hit, allowing you to recover a portion of the damage done.
-Draconic Superiority (Boots): All damage you inflict is increased, and your melee damage is further increased.
-Murderer's Cunning (Chest): You inflict increased damage to targets with full health.
-Overwhelming Might (Legs): Debuffs you apply to targets are increased by 1 level.
-Outlaw's Mark (all) - Causes you to be a permanent target for dragon hunters.
■ New anti_dragon enchantments:
-Dragonsbane (Weapon): Inflict increased damage to dragons. If you kill a dragon who has the Hunter's Omen effect, they will lose some growth progress. Damages dragons who hold it.
-Bolas Arrows (Crossbow): Causes crossbows to shoot bolas instead, trapping hit entities.
■ New block:
-Primordial Anchor: a block that appears on a new, custom end platform when entering the end as a dragon. You can charge it with an ender pearl, and use it to teleport as if you entered an End Gateway. Using it also grants you the ability to spin, and if you are unable to fly initially, the ability to fly as well. Becomes unusable if the ender dragon is dead, until the ender dragon gets revived.
■ New mechanics:
-New advancements have now been added for dragon-specific goals
-Added several new messages that notify you why you have failed to mount a dragon after a failed mounting attempt
-The new stage of growth is Ancient. Huge and destructive, but hard to achieve.
-There is a keybind to toggle on/off Ancient dragon destruction, and multiblock break mode.
-You can now swap abilities in/out of your hotbar, and enable/disable certain passive abilities by CTRL clicking on them
-Snow and snowfall now does damage to the cave dragon as well
-Smooth hitboxes and smooth growth
■ Removals
-Prince/Princess/Shooter entities and Royal chase
-Million configs deleted
-Falling into the The Void is no longer safe
-Innate skills are now split between passive skills and penalties
-Some old features may have been lost, please report them if they were important to you.
-Biome temperature has no effect on the sea dragon's desiccation rate
-Old localizations
■ UI fixes:
-All of the menus have been completely refactored, with new code and assets. Many bugs with the old menus have been resolved with this refactor.
-A fresh pass over the English localization has been done for clarity and correctness
-Fixed effect description text being improperly hidden when in the dragon inventory
-Placement of dragon character in the dragon inventory is significantly better
-It is now impossible to put blacklisted items in the armor, offhand, or claw tool slots
-Hunters can no longer hit each other with their projectiles
■ General fixes:
-Blacklisted items will now drop instantly when held in hand instead of after a delay
-Forest dragon "spike" ability will now correctly pierce targets instead of bouncing off of targets
-Dragon riding has been significantly improved. The rider now properly reflects the rotation of the dragon being mounted
-Dynamic animations on the dragon model (such as the tail and head movement) now no longer depend on the client's frame rate.
-Other players' tail/head movement should be more fluid, as it is now correctly interpolated.
-Tail physics has now been reimplemented and set as the default and only behavior for tail movement.
-Refactored the dragon food system for better compatibility with other mods.
-Networking has been partially rewritten, with many desync/data loss fixes.
-Dragon data is now stored using NeoForge's new data attachments system, which required a refactor of the existing dragon data system and likely fixed many desync/data loss issues.
-Dragon armor rendering has been optimized to be significantly faster than before. This should help with the lag of the dragon model overall.
-Various bugs involving claw tools causing unexpected behavior
-"dummy_dragon" nametag should not appear anymore
-Minor fixes to large dragon mechanics to make them trigger more consistently at various sizes
-Fixed small dragons being able to clip through ceilings
-Dragon skin loading is now done asynchronously, so there should be no more stutters when using the skin editor or when loading in initially
-Many, many, many more minor bug fixes and code refactors to help future development!
