So not long ago I saw a news article about scientists putting some mammoth genes into mice (or something similar, I'm not sure), and so they created the most adorable little creatures I've ever seen: mice with huge, woolly fur! :D And I just loved this mammoth/mouse combination so much I couldn't hold myself back and just had to make a picture of such a cool little creature :D

I didn't know mice with mammoth genes existed; it's good to learn something new from time to time.
Leaving that aside, I must add that the scene seen here is awesome, adorable, beautiful, interesting and wonderful; plus, the mammoth mouse gal seen in it looks cute, (very) fluffy and cool. :3

Gotta be the downer here...that press release was kind of bullshit and seriously misrepresents what was actually done. They're not "mice with mammoth genes", they're mice which had their existing mousey genes modified to something that looks a bit woolier than usual. It's a decent demonstration of modern gene editing techniques, but it's nowhere near what it claims to be.
And that's because the company behind it, Colossal, is kind of a scam. It's a startup ran by some fairly typical tech-bros that survives only through venture capital injections. They have nothing substantial to show, so they have to pad out their marketing with stunts like this in hopes of keeping the hype going a bit longer before it all inevitably collapses (by which point the founders clearly hope to be well away from the whole mess and either partying it up somewhere that doesn't extradite or on the next scam).
The mice are however adorable and I kinda hope that they (well, their descendants if they have 'em) end up in the pet trade when Colossal collapses. If they can cross with existing show mouse lines there's going to be all kinds of super fancy long-haired critters scurrying around...
