Abequa waited in the chilly room with only her own feathery fluff to keep her warm... as well as her fat body, so really she wasn't chilly at all. But she sure FELT chilly, not from the temperature, but from the anticipation... or rather, the nervousness. She hadn't expected to be called back here suddenly. Had the professor found something after all. She had to know, but she was slightly afraid to know. She really didn't know what to think. She could only wait as she stared at the tiny door at the other side of what served as a platform for small scales and a table for large scales like herself.
She waited...
And waited...
... Until finally, she caught a glimpse of someone walking up to the door through the tiny circular window.
The door swung open, revealing the professor, the same one who had been searching for answers on her behalf. She couldn't help but feel a little bit of comfort seeing him again... through she couldn't help but be slightly amused at the little doctor's attempts to drag a stool through the door.
The professor grunted as he pulled it through, but didn't allow that to prevent him from showing his manners. "Ah, Miss Abby!" he greeted. "Thank you for, MMPH, coming."
"Heh, hello," Abequa replied, trying to keep her composure as she extended one of her huge claws to prop the door open, allowing him to drag the stool through.
"Ah, thank you. Phew!" panted the professor, pulling the stool in and positioning it in a favorable spot.
"So uh, you wanted to see me?" Abequa said inquistively.
"Ah yes..." the professor said, sitting down on the stool finally. "We've made some... discoveries... but I must ask that you expect the unexpected."
"I'm sure it's something," Abequa sighed. "Otherwise you wouldn't have called me so urgently."
"Perceptive!" the professor said with a chuckle. "But before we get to that... I feel it's important for me to consider my approach to bringing you this information... which is why... I'd like to, well... interview you."
"Uh..." Abequa stammered. "... If that'll make it easier then, I suppose."
The professor sighed. "Good then. Err, have a seat, if you please."
Abequa stepped in front of the massive platform desk (massive to the professor anyway), and sat down, although due to the limited space between the table and the seat, she had to lift her large breasts and rest them on the table, directly in front of the professor, taking up his entire field of vision.
The professor blushed and cleared his throat, trying not to be distracted by this sight, his eyes darting around at something else to look at as Abequa got herself comfortable. His eyes, though, did momentarily rest upon Abequa's huge claws. He couldn't help but silently note their relevancy. "Now then..." the professor began, taking his eyes off her claws to look up at her face high above him. I must warn you that some of these questions might be heavy. Are you all right with this?"
Abequa took a deep breath. "Shoot."
"Very well," the professor said. "First question... What exactly was it like growing up in the small district?"
"Well..." Abequa began. "... It was hard to fit in... in more ways than one. It was hard going anywhere without getting strange looks from other dinos... or without knocking over stuff..."
"Hmm... were these strange looks in related to your size alone, or was it also something else?"
"My size was part of it... but there were a couple of other things. People couldn't understand why I couldn't fly like other Archae..."
"Ah... why do you suppose you couldn't fly?"
"I guess... because I was too heavy, and my wings weren't as big as the others... uh, proportionally."
"Hmmm... Now... what about your parents? Is there anything they said about you that stuck with you?"
"Well... my dad always said I needed to wait until my feathers built up more before I try flying. It was a lot of waiting though."
"Did they grow in?"
"... Uh..." Abequa looked at her wings for a moment. "... Maybe? I... I'm not sure... I still can't really fly... I uh... where are you going with this?"
"Patience, Miss Abby. We'll get there," the professor reassured. "But bear with me, if you please."
"Oh... okay..." Abequa said with an uneasy sigh.
The professor could see that Abequa was beginning to have some conflicting thoughts, but as he expected this, he continued. "All right, next question. So your wings didn't develop as expected, but did anything else?"
"Well... the rest of me?" Abequa said shrugging. "... Though, some said my claws are too big... Oh, that's right, my mom always told me not to let like claws get too long, but I kind of stopped caring, especially after I was forced to move..."
"HMM..." the professor went, cluing Abequa in that he may or may not have been onto something. "Could you tell me more about your claws perhaps?"
"..." Abequa hesitated, looking pale.
"... Miss Abby...?"
"... I don't know if know if I should mention that..."
"Any information gathered will not leave this room, Miss Abby," the professor reassured again, flipping open his coat. "And if you were wondering, I'm not wearing any microphones or recording devices."
Abequa took a deep breath again. "... All right... Well... It was after I had moved to the large areas. You see... even though I was in a more suitable environment, the bullying didn't exactly stop. People still thought I looked weird. Sherry was the only one who was on my side, and... well, people criticized her too for her spikes. She and I pretty much had each other's back all the time while most of the others kind of kept their distance... and then..."
"... And then...?"
Abequa huffed. "... And then one day, something dumb happened... There were these two kids at school in particular who wouldn't stop giving us crap. We usually shrugged it off, but then one day it reach a boiling point, and Sherry and I had to defend ourselves... physically. I'd... rather not describe it too much, but... I didn't think I scratched him THAT hard..."
The professor's eyes widened when he heard this, and he glanced at Abequa's claws again.
This time, Abequa herself noticed this, and looked at her own claws as well. "... Maybe I should've expected it?" she thought out loud. "I... they always said my claws looked weird... But I didn't think I... I..." Abequa trailed off, her beak agape. She now understood why the professor was asking her these questions. She looked at her wings, then her claws, then her wings again, then her claws again... then the rest of her body, her gigantic body.
The professor looked solemn. "I believe that'll do," he said softly. "I wanted to make sure before I tell you what we've determined from closely studying one of your feathers."
Abequa leaned forward. "... Prof..." she said slowly. "... What am I actually...?"
The professor took s deep breath himself this time, and slowly spit it out. "... You're not a Archae... In fact, you're not an Avialae saurian of any sort. You're in fact something much more uncommon... a Therzinosaur. Specifically... you're an Alxa..."
Abequa knew she was to expect the unexpected, but even so, learning that she wasn't what she thought was a big pill to swallow. She glared at her claws again.
The professor stood up immediately, walking up to Abequa's hand and embracing her claw, rubbing it. Abequa eased her breathing in response, despite her thoughts racing at blinding speed. She still couldn't muster a verbal response just yet.
"Now Miss Abby..." the professor said softly. "I won't pretend to know how you must feel right now."
Abequa huffed, finally knowing what to say. "... I'm... not really surprised... though, I feel like the main character of a story written by an indecisive writer..." she muttered. "... What am I supposed to do now...?"
The professor sighed, continuing to rub her claw. "Well... think of this. Your physique hasn't interfered with your ability to live your life as you always have before, has it?"
Abequa thought for a moment. "... I... I guess not?" she admitted.
"Exactly," the professor murmured. "The only thing that has changed is now you're aware that you're a different species from what you thought you were. At that point, the best thing you can do... is continue to live your life, and now that you know what you are, learn to embrace it..."
Abequa took in the professor's words, and glanced at her claws, wings, and the rest of her body again... Indeed, the professor was right. She was still whom she had always been. This new knowledge didn't change that fact one bit. She started to feel at ease, at least, a little. It was still a lot to take in, but she was glad she at least wasn't freaking out.
"If you need any more help adjusting, you can always contact me still," the professor said softly. "Again, I'm not paid to be a therapist, but at this point, I've come this far, I can keep going."
The newly dubbed Alxa smiled slightly. "Thank you..." she said softly.
The two shared a warm stare into each others' eyes for a moment.
"Oh, right, uh," the professor suddenly said, breaking the silence. "Have you any questions, Miss Abby?"
"Well... just one..." Abequa replied. "Does this mean I don't actually have giantism?"
"Oh, well, no. You still do, noticeably so," the professor answered. "You see, there are large dinos and there are small dinos, but it's not always that simple. The species designated Alxa is one of those... odd ones that seems to fall in between. A regular-sized one COULD feasibly dwell within small scale districts, albeit barely."
Abequa tilted her head. "Well, how big am I compared to a regular one?"
"Well... you're about four times bigger, and as giantism cases go, that's quite a drastic difference."
Abequa rolled her eyes. "Some things never change I suppose," she said with an ironic chuckle, the professor doing likewise.
However, a thought then crawled into Abequa's mind, her face contorting. "... But wait..."
"Hmm?" the professor tilted his head.
"... If I'm that big... how'd my egg end up in the small areas?"
The professor froze, as he hadn't thought of that. He pondered for a moment, folding his arms. After a moment, he looked up at Abequa. "... Answers lead to more questions I see..." he said thoughtfully. "My research continues for now... but for your sake, Miss Abby, I suggest you not worry about this so soon, and engage in something to relax yourself. One thing at a time."
Abequa sighed and nodded. "Right... relax..." she breathed. At the very least, she thought, she'd had a special someone to relax with when she got home. She decided for now to just look forward to that.
So uh... I guess it's time for me to explain.
So let me answer some potential questions:
1) Why did I change Abequa's species? My original vision for the dino gals was for them to be a bunch of big herbivore gals and one tiny carnivore dude, and playing with size difference based on the fact that large dinosaurs look like kaiju to smaller ones. Recently though, the fact that Abequa was an Archaeopteryx (which was the size of a crow IRL and in fact smaller than the Compsognathus, and also a carnivore) began to interfere with this vision. But you might ask, if that was the vision, then why did I choose to make Abequa an Archaeopteryx instead of something bigger? Well...
2) If that's the case, why did I even make Abequa an Archaeopteryx in the first place? The reason was because I wanted at least one of the dino gals to be something bird-like. However, at the time, Archaeopteryx was the only dinosaur I knew for sure was bird-like. It wasn't until sometime afterwards that I found out Therizinosaurus is a thing, and more recently I began to grow a fondness for it and others in its family. In addition, since Abequa is sort of my secondary sona, I wanted her to feel right, and her being a small dino enlarged instead of something that's actually big made me feel discontented.
3) Why didn't I just choose Therizinosaurus? The reason is because my dino gals have a naming convention in that the first letter of their name coincides with the first letter in their species name. I didn't want to suddenly change Abequa name, so I needed a dinosaur from the same lineage that started with "A". By an absolute stroke of luck, I discovered Alxasaurus, and spent time familiarizing myself with this surprisingly underrated dinosaur before making it her new species.
I also looked up if an Alxasaurus OC had been posted on FA before, and... I didn't see one. Do I have the first ever Alxasaurus character on FA? That's not medal worthy. I'm just asking.
Anyway, yeah, this is Abequa's new look. It honestly fits, because I realized recently I had started drawing her with bigger and bigger claws even before I decided to have her discover her species (because I like big hands). Honestly, even way back when, I realize she looked more like an Alxa than an Archae. I also gave her some dark blue feathers around her eyes resembling eyeliner as well as on her wrists, and if you missed it before, that open-sleeve hoodie is now part of her usual outfit.
Now with that, I have both a profile banner and a character bio to update.
Enjoy!
