Log entry by Fergus. My best friend Achaius brought this strange bone to me today. He claims to have found it under his pillow after having a strange dream, but forgot what the dream was about.
It appears to be a lumbar vertebrae. It's much larger than a typical vertebrae. From quick measurements and comparisions, it's much larger than a typical vertebrae. It could be from a taur or a feral horse, but I'm definitely not qualified to identify bones.
The body of the vertebrae, has a few notches made into it. I'm completely ignorant about magic. But the notches don't seem complex enough to form meaningful symbols. But they're glowing pink, so I guess there's something going on there.
In addition to the notches, the articulating process and tranverse processes have been filed down to make the bone comfortable to fit against ones eye for viewing through the enlarged vertebral foramen. Basically it's been modified so it's easy to hold and look through the hole in the middle.
Also the bone has marks inked around this hole showing an eye and an arrow pointing to the vertebral foramen, instructing the user to look through it.
This brings me to the most interesting feature of this bone. When I look through it, I can see trails of light that connect Achaius' pieces when they are detached. If I focus, I can see the same faint trails in all people, but it seems to highlight what modular parts are remotely connected to one another.
Like Achaius' magic, this thing behaves in an inconsistent but convenient way. When I think about which of Achaius' body parts are healthy inside his part chest, they seem to glow faintly red. Some of his friends have purple lines on their modular seams, but only when I think about them.
So regardless of how this .. sight bone? Regardless of how this sight-bone works, it's going to let me study some interesting things about modular furs.
I've also noticed that the bone is never cold in my hands when I picked it up off my desk. After a while, even my few trinkets made of bone get chilly. But this sight-bone never gets colder than 21C, even if the room is colder than that.
And despite being what it's made of, this sight-bone doesn't feel sinister. The marks are made with care. And the "x o x o" looks like how someone would use it in a love letter. I think whoever or whatever bestoyed this device to Achaius, was really excited to have it be used.
I'm not a fan of how the colored pencil made my hand look. It's like some kind of desaturated orc.. pickle.. flesh. It looked brighter than this before I scanned it.
But anyways, This is the first part of a series exploring how modularity is different between different characters.
