Finally, the first piece of the series "Secret Findings of Bos Cova" from my MYRE Vol. 2 Indiegogo campaign is complete! It took me quite a while to finish, mainly because of a long preparation phase. The paper inside the book turned out to be a bit tricky to handle, so I had to run several tests with primers and paints to find the best combination of materials and tools. You really don’t want to see the poor test copy... it’s now part of my private collection. XD The illustration is inside a copy of MYRE Vol. 2. Secret Findings of Bos Cova describes a series of illustrations created by mages responsible for historical recordings. Travelers, merchants, and folk living on Yria naturally spread news and documented events over time, but places like Bos Cova, which is a vast system of forested catacombs beneath the city of Ehraan, produced some truly unique illustrations. Students of the arts had plenty of time to dive deep into their craft and create grand artworks. One such student is Shminkledoo, who sought out the most fascinating historical moments to illustrate them with fine inks and gold pigments, harvested from one of Yria’s largest butterfly species.
Story
The first historical event to be illustrated is the tale of Max Lightfoot, a sailor who bravely crossed the tempestuous seas in search of new lands and adventures. On his journey through the rough waters of the Stream of Ezkar, Lightfoot befriended a group of sea dragons. These dragons moved through the water as if they were flying through the air, protecting him whenever storms threatened his ship. Sometimes their bodies would look just like the waves themselves.
During dark nights, the stars and moon would make the dragons shimmer like molten gold, illuminating Lightfoot’s path safely towards Ezkar.
I'm currently in the process of editing all the footage I recorded during the creation of this piece. It took a bit longer than expected because I was handling a lot of new tools and ideas all at once. I’m optimistic that the next illustration will go much faster and smoother. I'm already at it. :)
