A DnD character of mine that was unfortunately short-lived, as the campaign he was being used in has been on indefinite hiatus for a year or two.

I wrote a huge backstory for him, but the gist of it is he's the owner of a popular tavern and well-known for his unique ability to detach his head thanks to a cursed artifact he rather foolishly equipped without identification. His motivation for adventuring was the death of a previous party he spent a lot of time with, the armoring on his right arm actually a piece of the party's primary fighter. Best he can tell, they were murdered in town by a cult with unknown goals. He's following up on any leads that can get him closer to avenging their deaths.

His body is fully under his control while his head is detached. Additionally, the artifact gives him greatly enhanced proprioception when his head is in close range of his body. This means he can fight and function normally even if his body is out of sight, as long as his head isn't too far away. After a certain distance, the connection severs and his body goes limp until his head is brought close enough again. The blue stump is a shifting current of raw magic, touching it feels like placing your hand on warm glass with a faint electric current running through it.
