Edward's primary form is that of a werelion—there's no doubt about that, according to his vulpine friend Kiyoshi. However, this higher-class curse requires tremendous energy to maintain the power it grants him. We're talking about a once-per-day kind of drain. If Kit were to recast the curse, he would be completely exhausted, leaving Ed vulnerable when outnumbered. Being a rookie spellcaster, Kit's attempts to master spells above his class will naturally cause problems without proper supervision or training.

So to mitigate this, Kit proposed that Edward would try other beast forms under his skill level in the meantime. That way he can learn how to cast the werelion curse more effectively in the future.

Edward remained indecisive for a while, pondering which form would make a good alternative, until Kit finally chose one for him to try—a Wereboar.

While Edward wasn't thrilled with this form—it had more or less the same physical boost as his werelion form, just not as potent. But it wasn't the power difference that upset him. It was his wild boar appearance and the thought that people would call him a pig that irritated him.

But knowing Kit's limitations, Edward, being a good friend, continues to use this form until it expires. Perhaps remembering his fight with the wereboar wrestler Douglas and how effectively he used it might help Edward reconsider this "backup" curse... but then again, maybe not.
