AUCTION
The autumn night enveloped the rodents' quarter in a cold darkness. The silence was so profound it seemed nothing would dare disturb the peaceful slumber of its inhabitants. But a sudden, piercing squeak tore through this serenity, causing the creatures to peer out of their windows. And then, a moment later, Remy burst out into the street – a young hamster driven by curiosity and a showy bravery. Adolescent energy surged through his veins, not allowing him to stay put. Remy immediately ran towards the sound, or rather, hopped on one leg – the haste had left him with only one sneaker.
Catching his breath after running, Remy was panting so loudly that he didn't immediately realize the source of the squeak was right in front of him. A huge, weeping ball of fluff huddled by the main gate.
The disarray in the security system of their dwelling didn't surprise Remy. The conditions for small animals in those years left much to be desired. He shouldn't have been there. The hamster approached the trembling ball and quietly asked:
"Hey, buddy, what's your name?"
The other flinched and, sobbing, uttered:
"I... I'm Kyle...."
