So the chapters from here on out are more like this. I didn't feel the need to page things out if I figured I'd likely be making script edits as I was drawing the pages for the first chapter. Looking back, this chapter feels kind of dramatic for a second chapter. I feel like the 2024 edit fixes that but honestly, can't remember.

(Inside the Fox home living room/dining room area, Shela seen over by the fire place)
(Show Shela boiling water and preparing coffee, pouring two cups on the table)
(The third cup is filled with tea, Charles is quick to snatch it up)
Charles: I thought I heard you in here, thanks for the tea.
Shela: No problem, I couldn’t get back to sleep. Dad said we have a busy day of training today and I hoped…
(Charles looks at her sadly, knowing they’re both hoping for something that won’t happen)
(Roy steps in from the hallway and both turn to look at him)
Shela: Coffee is ready on the table.
Roy: (clearly not awake) Thank you.
Roy: (sleepily wanders over and grabs the mug)
Roy: (while sipping on coffee) You’ll both be training in the village today
Charles: Both of us?
Roy: Mhmm, Desmond and I need to have a meeting and send a few letters today. There won’t be time to go into the forest.
Shela: Letters?
Roy: Asking our fellow fighter groups for any new information and giving what little we’ve got. We’ve run dry on leads and being in the dark is never a good thing.
Roy: Either way, you two will be better off just training the others. (smirking) Aero and Dean in particular seem to need it.
Shela: (grinning) Yeah I did kind of put them to shame last time. They’re learning well though, just not as experienced.
Charles: I’m so mad I missed that! Everyone in the village said they didn’t stand a chance against you, you didn’t let up.
Shela: (scratching the back of her head) I can’t believe everyone had to watch, how embarrassing.
Roy: (looking outside) Well it’s looking to be about that time, I’d better meet up with Desmond. I’ll be back in time to take care of dinner tonight so you don’t need to worry about it.
(Roy grabs his coat off the back of a chair and heads out the door, Shela and Charles getting in a good bye before the door closes)
Shela: I guess we’d better head out too, it should be a group of five right?
Charles: Aero, Dean, Ash, Wingus, and Dinus? Yeah sounds about right, let me grab my hand wraps.
(Charles disappears into the hall while Shela fidgets with her own wraps. She also tightens her hair while waiting)
(Charles returns and they head out the door, down the familiar path)
(They stop to knock on Aero’s door)
Aero: Hey, I guess it’s training day?
Shela: You got it. You ready?
Aero: Almost, give me a moment.
(Door shuts and the two are left to wait)
Charles: I’m gonna go grab the other two, you grab Dean and Ash and meet me there?
Shela: Sure thing.
(Charles wanders off while Shela continues to wait. Not long after the front door opens again and Aero steps out)
Aero: Not gonna lie, I’m still sore. So uh, please don’t kill me today?
Shela: (chuckles) Yeah I’m sorry, I did go a little harder than intended that day. We won’t fight as hard today, just focus on technique.
(The two start walking down the path)
Aero: Sounds good. Are we going to do any magic?
Shela: You know I can’t. Ash will probably be working with Dean but I don’t imagine he’ll have time to work with you both. You can try though.
Aero: Does it bother you not being able to do magic?
Shela: Not really. I’m tough with or without it, so why let it get to me?
Aero: I guess that’s true but-
(Shela ignores him in favor of knocking on the door to Ash and Dean’s. They’re left waiting for a moment and Aero awkwardly fidgets, realizing he brought up something Shela didn’t want to talk about)
(Ash is the one to open the door, looking a tad grumpy)
Ash: What?
Shela: Good morning to you too, it’s time for training.
Ash: The sun is just barely up…You never train this early.
Shela: Well I have nothing else to do today so let’s get started.
Dean: (from behind Ash) Ash? Is that Shela? Are we training?
Ash: I guess we have no choice…Can we meet you there in ten minutes?
Shela: Make it five, you’ll wake up when you’re on your feet and moving.
(Ash practically slams the door behind them and Shela just laughs)
Aero: You really enjoy pissing him off don’t you.
Shela: Not intentionally, he’s just easy to pick on.
(The two make it to the training area just a little after Charles, who was at the bottom of the path)
Charles: Hey, aren’t you short a few?
Shela: They’re joining us in a moment. Ash was not happy to be training so early.
Charles: (laughs) He can suck it up, he’s always grumpy in the mornings.
Charles: I guess for now, let’s get started. (turns to face the other two, who look mildly horrified)
(Charles is seen demonstrating with the other two. Shela and Aero practice stretches first)
(Ash and Dean finally show up just as they finish up stretching)
Shela: I was beginning to wonder if you turned chicken!
Dean: Nah I just had to push him to move the entire way here. He’ll wake up in a few.
Shela: That’s fine, you two can watch as I demonstrate with Aero.
Aero: Demonstrate?
Shela: Battle stance!
(Aero did as told and soon enough Shela was charging at him like she had in the past. This time he had learned though and was able to block her, taking a lot of her speed out of the mix. In the end she still knocked him down)
Shela: Well done! That was a hell of an improvement!
Aero: ugh, congratulate me when my head stops pounding please.
(Dean laughs in the background)
Shela: How about you two work on Dean’s magic today? Aero’s making good progress here, I want to keep working on it.
Ash: Sure thing, that was my preference anyway.
(Dean looks a tad sad but nods as the two begin working together. He makes small glowing spells but they fade away quickly. Aero and Shela continue to train, though stopping to watch every once in a while)
Ash: You’re not putting enough in to it, these spells are weak.
Dean: I know but…
Ash: You’ll do fine, I know you’re worried but these are the most basic of spells. You’ve got this.
Dean: Okay…(takes a deep breath and begins channeling magic energy in his hands. It begins glowing super bright before Dean is flung back, hitting the ground hard and sliding)
Shela and Ash: DEAN! (both rush over)
Dean: (takes a deep inhale and begins coughing) I’m (heave) oh (cough) kay
Ash: (patting him on the back) We need to get you to the doctor…
Dean: No no god I’m fine!!
Charles: (stepping over) Dean, you need to listen to them. Get to Doctor Nick’s place.
Dean: (tries to stand up and wobbles over) Hrk! (Shela helps catch him) Alright, fine…
(Both Shela and Ash help stabilize him)
Shela: Aero, go ahead and head home. We’ll train overtime tomorrow to make up for cutting today short.
Aero: Alright, you know where to find me if you need me.
Charles: Same goes to you too, go take a break. You need it anyway.
Shela: Charles, can you please talk to dad about this. I’m…
Charles: Worried. Yeah, I’ll head out now.
(They split off in different directions, the 3 heading to the inner area of the camp and into a larger hut)
Shela: Hey Nick, can you take a look at Dean?
Nick: What’s going on?
Ash: I pushed him too far with his magic, he rebound on himself.
Nick: Take him into the room there (he gestures behind him) and I’ll take a look.
(Shela and Ash take him into the back and get Dean sat down before they’re shooed out by Nick)
(Fearful silence between the two)
Shela: I’m sorry that our camp is so unequipped for his problem, we can barely even handle normal medical issues as is.
Ash: Well you’ve suffered for it as well so…no need for an apology.
Shela: (flash backs to Shela’s reoccurring nightmare) Yeah, I guess that’s…true.
(The two stare at the door and it fades to Charles running unto the meeting cave)
Charles: Dad!
Roy: Charles, is something wrong? (standing up)
Charles: Nothing that you need to run over to but Shela felt it important to let you know Dean was injured during training. His magic backfired on him.
Desmond: Oh no…
Roy: Is he alright?
Charles: I have a feeling he’ll be okay, I sent him to Doctor Nick’s with Shela. But she’s worried…
Roy: (sighs) Yes, I know our doctor situation right now isn’t great.
Desmond: It’s something we’ve been asking about in our letters, we’re hoping we can at least get someone to help with training.
Roy: Let her know that I appreciate her keeping me updated. I’ll check in with Dean and Ash later tonight.
Charles: I sent everyone home from training, do you want me to take care of dinner tonight?
Roy: If you don’t mind. Maybe it is best everyone just rests today.
(Roys looks out of the cave sadly and it fades back to the doctor’s office)
(The door to the room finally opens and Dean steps out carefully)
Ash: You’re okay…
Dean: Yeah, no serious injuries that we can find.
Nick: No, just a bit of bruising and scrapes from being pushed back. He should rest for at least fives days to make sure nothing ends up seriously damaged.
Shela: Got it, no training for you for a while.
Dean: Yeah, I’m actually kinda bummed. (chuckles)
Shela: (rolls her eyes) Well, I guess you two had better head back home. Need anything before I take off?
(Ash and Dean look at each other for a moment before turning to her and shaking their heads)
Dean: Hey uh, tell your brother thanks for looking out for me.
Shela: Of course.
(Ash and Dean depart, Ash supporting Dean on their walk. Shela heads back toward the house. It’s sometime in the afternoon)
(Once up at the house, Shela passes by Charles without a hello and heads straight to the garden to take her mind off things)
(Charles continues working on food, waiting until it’s done to poke his head in)
Charles: Hey, food’s ready.
Shela: Thanks, I’ll eat in a few.
Charles: Was Dean okay?
Shela: Yeah, he just needs rest.
Shela: (looking over) What did dad say?
Charles: They’re seeking help in their letters already. We’ll see how things turn out.
Shela: (huffs) Whatever.
Charles: Quit being angry and come eat, you need it.
(Shela follows and they sit together outside, looking over the village. Aero waves at them as he’s heading in for his own dinner)
Shela: I just wish I knew how to protect everyone.
Roy: (off screen) As do I. We’ll get there in time.
Shela: (surprised)
Roy: Sorry I’m late, mind if I join you two?
(The two chuckle, all of them sitting together, fading out)
