The late son of NASCAR legend Bobby Allison, Davey Allison drove this scheme from 1987 to 1989, with this particular car being a 1989. Starting with a sponsorless car in his rookie season, Davey's talent shone through his inexperience one the circuit and attracted the sponsorship of Texaco Havoline motor oil and from there, his career took off, winning his first race in 1987 at Talladega, and continuing to impress the NASCAR community with his consistency and earning 19 wins between 1987 and 1993, including the 1991 Daytona 500. He also nearly won the championship in 1992, a crown that went to Alan Kulwicki.
Unfortunately his career was cut short when he was injured in a helicopter crash on July 12, 1993. The next morning, he passed away, leaving the NASCAR community shocked such a promising career and rising star was gone.
We miss you Davey.
