This chick hatched in the Summer of 2011. I thought making a little 'picture development compilation' would be a neat idea to share with friends, family, & the internet as well. Feel free to ask if y'all have questions. :>
Right now I'm using adhesive bandage tape & other things (ex. a 'twist-tie' from a loaf of bread) to keep the chicks legs together to fix the splay. NOTE: Be EXTREMELY careful not to cut of blood circulation to the legs & also use soft padding or cotton if needed.

It means that the legs are not developing correctly, the are splaying out to the sides & they won't be able to walk (or in very bad cases sit correctly). I could happen for a number of reasons: if the mother sits too tightly on the chick or poor bedding/smooth surfaces. It's best to fix it when they're really young; if you wait too long you only get a few choices left. If not treated at all the legs will stay spread out at weird angles perminately.
