drew my oc Moaci / Migo with the same face paint as me :)
I don't talk much about it online, but when I created Migo I created him thinking of indigenous identity in mind. Specifically this feeling of being something and being so far away from it, being and yet not belonging. Its a certain cultural melancholy I'm sure many americans (continent) will share. He has always been an indigenous brazilian isolated from his culture in urban context. Though things have changed so much in my life in the last few years I feel like I can share a bit of this joy with him, too :)
With everything that has happened and still happens in our continent, reclaiming an intentionally erased identy is a harsh journey. though if I can say something to any indigenous person out there that is worried about starting this journey, it is that your family wants to have you back, no matter how long time has passed and how different you may be now.

This is beautiful, it reminds me of the works of Felix D'Eon, who has a specific dedicated account on instagram (@micorazonmexica) on finding his own identity in indigenous mexican culture. I hope you find joy and community in your quest to reconnect to the culture that was sadly forced into hiding centuries ago
oh please dont feel like you cant approach us!! people from outside indigenous communities tend to think we dont want to be reached and that they'd be invading if they'd come visit. its not true!! you can always go to a nearby indigenous community and say you want to get to know the place, and if all is fine people will tell you to come in, and if in that day they can't host a visit they'll will let you know when you can come. many communities have pages on the internet with information to help visitors, or host events exactly for that purpose. if you're respectful you'll be welcome! those are wonderful places to be with a lot to learn, both about your neighbours and about yourself :)
It would be nice. QwQ
Maybe one day I get back.. I was from the north of Brazil but I'm at the southeast... My great-great-grandmother was a native that got kidnapped and forced to be wife of the lord of some lands... this was not right, and my parents never told me about the tribe. But I love their culture, so even if its not the same tribe it would be great to know more about them. :3
Thank you for sharing your this with me. x3
