I'm on a roll with Mermay stuff to have put out a third piece, this time of the mermaid from the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis game Wonder Boy in Monster World. She sits behind a counter in-game so you won't be able to tell she is a mermaid, though she has official artwork in the Japanese manual that depicts her as one.
At a certain point, Shion has the option to give her an ocarina (which was needed earlier in the game to get into the first dungeon and has no further use) to learn where to find an amulet to access Poseidon's Temple and have an audience with Poseidon to progress the game. I'd like to imagine that she wants the ocarina so she can play it by the ocean, sending melodies of enduring legends of Monster World across the seas.
