How… how does one “debunk” her inspiration? The person who designed her wasn’t exactly shy about her being based on Divine. Even the voice actress, who got her start in theater, tried to emulate the camp aspect of drag performances with her voice acting. It’s an open secret at this point. :v
I agree, however the problem is that the one on the left is the standard, not the exception. When you look up male Ursula art, that depiction is the most popular and takes up the majority of the results, which really shouldn't be the case. I don't think people do this on purpose, but it needs to be pointed out.
I think it´s also some fault after Melissa Macarthy version of Ursula on The Little Mermaid remake, as she is THINNER henceforth that´s why the alternative versions of male Urusula very away from canon. [Melissa Macarthy actually stopped to be interesting and original-charismatic, when she loose weight.]
Azul is so awesome and the dynamic with the iconic duo of the Leech twins, Jade & Floyd, is so great! [They´re kinda even more interesting than Azul.] All the Twisted Wonderland characters have evolved quite A LOT from the original Disney Villains references into very modern complex and engaging-interesting dudes with grey morality yet prone to be heros than villains at the end, and still very unconventional or dark-tuned ones!!
Seriously the fish-tail WTF?!! Seems as the author blended it with the character of Marina Del Rey from The Little Mermaid 3 movie - a prequel of the main one - as she was that type of purple-ish/mauve mermaid which many people thought was the former version of Ursula before becoming a caecillian and changed her name, but well was another character after all.
Well actually Ursula before becoming the iconic caecillian merfolk that she is, she was considered to be another type of marine creature including a rockfish and a lionfish too - she was very much like Yzma when being slimer or like her sister Morgane. So yeah makes sense a lot of people thought that Marina Del Rey was Ursula somehow before becoming the octopus-merfolk she´ll be later on, but was someone very different.
