During the mid-16th century, a criminal empire run by a man known only as the Jackal terrorized all of England. His influence had begun to spread throughout Europe, until the early 1680s when it all came crashing down. His body was discovered in an alleyway, posed like a broken puppet, ropes suspending his shattered corpse in mid-air. Historians believe the citizens of London had risen up against his cruel hand, and enacted vigilante justice. After his death, it was expected that there would be a bloody war for power and control over his empire, but nothing happened. Crime levels returned to normal, and beyond a few strange disappearances, things were perfectly fine.
Years later, the London police would be brought down in disgrace for having aided the Jackal for decades.
