Exactly the sort of feel I expected, dark, dangerous...

In terms of symbolism I see chess as a dangerous game of power, intellect, deception... the sorts of things Mirth himself uses to get what he wants. Delicious delicious wants.

Or on the other hand, maybe there could be lives hung on the line in a real game, invited someone home to have a couple of drinks and a round of chess. "Apologies my sweet, but you lose." he whispers with an air of deviousness as below the table , his opponent feels a sharp prick from a sedative filled syringe.
