With a contented inhale, Meredith could feel the warm summer air fill her lungs and melt away the stress of life. The sun caressed her fur fondly, the cool water of the forgotten pond outside of town gently washed against her paws; the timbers of the old dock creaked gently under her as she could feel the sun's warmth radiating into her palms from the weathered boards. The day was perfectly still. Only the songs of birds in the forested hills behind her and the occasional high-pitched trill and low vibrato of a nearby red-winged blackbird filled her still mind. Peacefully, she slowly let the air slip through her nostrils and her gently-parted lips. It was her favorite little spot outside of town: a place long-forgotten where she could let the worries of the day slip away effortlessly into the summer air.
I was so thrilled to get this sketch painted! I couldn't help but do a little companion write-up for this piece as well. Meredith is a sunny-spirited young woman who lives a happy life in a wholesome little town, but even then she needs to wander to find some peace every once in a while.
