It's to create emphasis, and illusions.
The poem without the spacing looks like this:
"There are no smiles here, only bared teeth with grins on the side. I participate with them."
But through the use of the magical enter button, I created emphasis on
"no smiles here"
and made the illusion of a sentence/phrase with
"on the side.
