I decided the Batman TAS episode Tyger Tyger is where most of my preteen wires got crossed. I distinctly remember it being one of my first "I feel weird" moments and I could trace a lot of tastes straight back to it.
It's basically a half-hour of primo post-TF angst with a naked male and female cat walking around. 12 year-olds didn't stand a chance. Also the two were meant to be mates for added perversion, I guess.

Don't judge but it was Egon transforming into a were-chicken in an episode of Ghostbusters. Not any kind of awakening but for some reason I became obsessive about the idea and imagery. Then of course TMNT didn't help things, largely the April into Cat and Irma and Burne turning into rats (not to mention Splinter doing that amazing TF every episode).
But yeah, this episode is when I was old enough to understand what box it had all been going into. Then later seeing the werewolf episode clinched it. Worst part is there wasn't really any place to talk about, look for or share the interest, especially not being at the age I was at. At least until the TF ring got made on early internet. The hours I spent on Werecats Werecreatures waiting for those blurry vhs screenshots will always be with me.
