When the last of the cows were wiped out in 2030 by an infectious disease, bovinication became the go-to solution to continue to have milk being produced. Participants get paid for a portion of the milk they produce, as well as having their room, food, and anything else they need covered for the term of their contract.
Some who go through bovinication may choose not to lose their sapience and instead stay as a worker, receiving a lesser dose of the serum and caring for those who chose to go for the lower sapience route. They get paid the milk bonus on top of usual wages and also have all needs covered.
