The butterbat (UK) or batterfly (USA) is an extremely tiny magical creature that feeds on nectar and microscopic insects. There are many species of these animals both diurnal and nocturnal, though nocturnal species are sometimes referred to as mothbats.
While diverse in species, nearly all of them are critically endangered. The most common species (still considered rare) is the marigold (depicted in this illustration).
