Battle of Giants - Indrig Vs. Ankylosaurus (By Mapusart_23)
Indrig’s belly rumbled, the hungry noise nearly alerting his prey of his position behind the stack of boulders that concealed him. Another strange creature he had never seen was a short distance away from his hiding place. It was a brief, well-armored beast with its most defining characteristic being its spherical tail.
Indrig had yet to sink his teeth into these new creatures before. Unlike the rexes he had faced before, this one was smaller and seemed unlikely to be aggressive. It lay still, its head down as it feasted on the Earth’s greenery. Yes. This would be the perfect moment to learn of the flavors of these exotic beasts.
Indrig licked his chops. From a distance, it’s meat promised to be tough, but its hide would give away easily to his strong jaws; he had no doubt.
Taking this creature down would prove to be an interesting challenge to the hunter. Its neck was hardly visible, making a killing bite tricky to execute, and a majority of its body was covered in armor. But Indrig was an adult of his kind. His bite force was stronger than any creature; its armor, much like its flesh, would stand no chance against his teeth.
Slowly emerging from his hiding place, indrig leapt forward, claws outstretched, atop the creature’s back, hoping to bite through its armor and rip and tear scales to weaken it enough to bring him down to properly end its life without much pain.
Hearing his prey warble in alarm, Indrig wasted not a single moment, digging his claws into the tough hide of the creature, he opened his maw and…
CRUNCH
It felt like biting into a rock.
With the ankylosaurus under him beginning to shift and writhe, indrig quickly dismounted, getting up and moving a distance away from it.
The dinosaur did not flee, instead facing Indrig, lifting its clubbed tail into the air and sending it down with a mighty thump in a display that showed it was not afraid. It was not afraid of the Draak-Kin before it, and it certainly was not willing to become lunch. The dance of destruction begins!
A majority of its body was covered in armor. Indrig’s claws and teeth would do no good in this fight, but it still had its flame. Gathering as much fireseed as he could, Indrig belched an inferno at his opponent’s face.
The Ankylosaurus bellowed in agony. The smell of cooked flesh filled the air as Indrig’s flame scalded his scales. Indrig breathed more fire, getting close enough to swipe his claws across his face, raking his opponent across the eye, blinding him.
Wisely, the Ankylosaur backed away, its movements noticeably slower, but determined. It knew what the dragon was going to do now. Alas, Indrig’s pattern was far too predictable.
Indrig backed off, preparing another bout of flame. The Ankylosaurus was prepared this time, though, and as Indrig unleashed yet another inferno, the dinosaur tilted its body so that its armor received most of the damage.
Indrig’s breath was hot enough to do some damage, but its stocky body was armored enough to take most of the hurt off.
Closing the gap between his opponent, it was finally time for the ankylosaurus to show his opponent what he could do. He latched his armored body backwards with a roar, the unexpected impact making Indrig topple to the floor.
With a growl of frustration, Indrig quickly rose to his paws just as the Ankylosaur was preparing to unleash a devastating blow with its tail. Still disoriented from the initial strike, Indrig foolishly got closer, claws out for another strike! Swinging around, the Akylosaur let its tail fly towards indrig’s skull!
BATKCH!!!
Indrig saw red as the dinosaur’s tail club whipped him across the face with strength that could rival his father’s disciplining tail smacks when Indrig was a hatchling.
Indrig roared in agony as his head swung back fiercely. Blood poured from his maw, his snout, a nd parts of his skull cracked from the impact. Indrig hit the ground hard, groaning as a horrible headache set in. In the corner of his eye, he could see the small puddle of his blood staining the grass, with a few of his pristine fangs scattered all over.
The Ankylosaur did not continue, nor did he stop to gloat over his victory. Wisely, he turned tail and fled with surprising speed.
The Ankylosaur would live with melted scales and blindness in one eye for the rest of its life, all at the cost of having one hell of a story to tell with proof to tell the tale. Indrig would be a lot more fortunate. After a few days of rest, the throbbing in hod head would disappear. His body would recover, and his lost teeth would be replaced by fresh ones. Instead of a story of triumph, Indrig left that day having learned one thing: Looks can truly be deceiving.
I guess it’s true what they say. Pain is a powerful teacher.
