I grew up forced into Catholicism as a child, which was shitty enough, but made worse by the fact that I am not exactly straight. Being a queer kid surrounded by self-righteous assholes telling you that you're broken, an abomination, going to hell, etc. was an actual fucking nightmare. Their fear tactics, hate and abuse kept a strangle hold on me until I fully rejected my family's religion in my teens. Still, it left me with irreparable psychological damage that I am still working through in my 40's.

My story is not unique, and this is exactly why we need Pride. Too many people in this world do not understand that love comes in many forms, and so long as it is between two consenting adults--why the fuck should it matter who you love?

Just let people be who they are. You have one life. You have every right to live it as your most authentic self.
