Great poem and this section ruled.
The more he thought about it... the eye rolling, the practiced detachment, the “nah, I’m good” shrug. It all felt like a performance. An old one. Something he used to wear like armor. But right now, with the salt wind tugging at his feathers and Sandbar’s hoof warm against his claw, he didn’t want armor. Not really.
