After 6 months of delays I finally managed to finish my 3D print of Tiff the skunk (based on 2D art by
iamzavix) I wanted to see how hard it is to give depth to a 2D image and then print it out. Turns out it takes forever to make every tiny detail, although I didn't exactly pick an easy starting image. I got stuck at the 3D printing phase because I had a simple printer that could only use 1 color at a time. I tried separating the model into pieces based on each color, with the intent of gluing them together, but you need to shrink the edges of each piece so that they can fit together, and with the complexity of this model it would have taken even longer that the time it took to make the model. I recently got a new printer that can use 4 colors at once, and was able to print the whole thing in one pass.
I had an idea to sell these prints as a commission, people could send art of their character that I could turn into a 3D print and mail to them, but the process is currently too tedious, so I need to get better at it first.
The model is a little under 7 1/2" tall (19 cm) and took 21 hours to print
