I love how the dialogue in the first two panels differs from the original. Is it because Sinh's recounting is an imperfect memory, I'm assuming? It's a very neat detail! :D

And yes, I changed the dialogue because Sinh, like just about everyone else, has an imperfect memory. Also it's a subtle clue to the reader that Sinh's interpretation of events may differ from actual events.

Thank you for those compliments. World building is fun, although this world is sort of pre-built. I'm just modding it a bit. There are dozens and dozens of hours of research gone into this as I explore the history, cultural, and technical developments of our own world. Then I have to figure out how the extra layer of animal natures effects how history has played out.

The differences between this and the previous page suggest that things might not be as dire as Sinh fears. That comforts me a bit, but I still feel something in my heart chaffing that he would even allow such a decision to be made for him.

Love is a very coercive force, but I have trouble seeing the honor or romance in using that force to pressure someone into having their body so permanently altered for someone else's convenience.
I have an abhorrence for "if you loved me, you'd do this for me" sort of speak that makes me a bad candidate for this kind of play...

All that said, good on you for making this story so vicerally engaging. I'm looking forward to seeing how this resolves.

Oh trust me, I have an strong disdain for emotional coercion. Especially the "If you loved me you would..." kind. I can certainly understand your fear that there's some toxicity here.
There are forces of consent and privilege that constantly push against each other in the previous story and this one. :)

I think there will be a very obvious moral to this story by the time we get to the end.

One of the things I like is how you captured the essence of the Castes in having them be different species living together, I've read the Laws of Manu, and there is a lot of interesting worldbuilding stuff in there, like dress codes, naming conventions, and even manners.

Thank you. There's definitely some things related varna and jati going on. Species can play a role in In a character's varna but its no guarantee of being a certain caste, but it definitely relates to associated jati in the the setting. There are definitely vaishya caste and shudra caste lions. Even the rare dalit. Region makes a difference too. It's a big country with a myriad of local traditions.

That being said, I'm only painting in broad, respectful tropes.

Love your sense of humor in your writing, its all so charming :P

I am deeply gratified at your enjoyment of the story. It's all one big experiment that and I'm trying to let the characters write themselves. It's nice when they do that.
