It is a ceremony indeed, though I'm not sure that would be one of the kinds that Anubis presides, he'd work more around funeral rites. At least that's what the lore and myths I have found suggest.
Plus in this setting, his powers only work on contact, so it'd mean getting close enough to an enemy that a sword specifically made to kill him. That's doable, but it'll be complicated ^^
