Søren, by all accounts, is just an average cat. At least, that was, until he was killed while in the company of Yaang and Rick. Because of Rick's selfishness and desire to correct something she perceives as being her fault, she guilts Yaang into using their time powers. Combining Yaang's abilities with the forgemasters' tools, Rick grasped Søren at the precise moment he was about to die and hammered him a second out of sync, forcing him out of the timestream and breaking that particular point in time. Thus Søren remains as kind of a Schrödinger's cat; not dead, not alive, but a fixed point in time that has to remain constant.
