Salvaging parts of mechs has been always a common practice , to refurbish them or simply melt them down , or even strip them apart.
However with the advent of synthethic creatures and various "non-person" pilots (along with the occasional poor sod who is already in debt or had no legal protection as indiependents) some took up the habit to argue that they too are simply parts of the mech.
Able to be salvaged.
Faelanne is just one of them, disabling their mech by freezing their parts before cracking up their shell to retrieve her newest Hound. Heavily augmented and undergoing brainwashing procedures to ensure loyalty, they are however valued members of her "pack" , accompanying her on hunts.
