Sir Gally has always been a protector: a knight who throws himself into battle not for glory, but for the sake of those who cannot raise a sword themselves. After a hard-won skirmish he is left scratched and dented, yes, but content. He takes a moment to polish his blade, already thinking about the next time he’s needed.
In another life he is Dr. Gally. Having also just finished a busy day, he is found in exhaustion after a long shift. Still in his coat, still surrounded by unfinished paperwork, still too many names on the list.
Both help people. But not all battles are fought with steel. May we learn to honor both. And may we remember to rest.
This art is a bit personal as someone who works in medicine. Touching the lives of others and helping them, much like a knight, is what drove me into the field in the first place. Yet I'd be remiss to deny the stress and risk of burnout that comes with the territory. Practicing self-compassion has been a valuable lesson for me during this time.
