Ground station for infrared Space Power Station
This is the terrestrial component of my inflatable space power station, tasked with receiving the infrared laser beam from space and converting it into electricity. IR-selective photovoltaic panels should work but are quite specialized, so I settled on the more mature technology of boiling water to spin a turbine. The drawing presents two methods for heating the water, each with its strengths and weaknesses.
