The Koals are a subterranean species that bear resemblances to lapins, canines, squirrels and felines in a variety of ways. Every Koal can see in perpetual darkness, colors included, and consist on a diet of stones, meats and mushrooms. They are a very short race with no exceptions to that rule outside of the Chiefling, the leader of a den. Their fur betrays an extremely durable body, specifically with their forearms and their hands which can crush even steel.
While their eyes can withstand light fairly easily, a sudden flash in the darkness can leave a Koal blinded for an extended period of time, sometimes up to an hour, and even cause them great pain. They have a deep connection with one another, like a hivemind centralized around emotion called 'Hearth', and bare little to no malice to their fellow kin. They love one another equally, and while they can fight, they never betray each other. Their 'Hearth' is strongest with their mothers, and they are taught right from wrong from a very young age.
Their forearms will increase in mass as they work and/or get older, to the point where seeing one dragging them along the ground would be commonplace. They don't leave behind footprints, and they have distinct gender differences between men and women.
One in particular is that men tend to have cool colors with their shades of hair, while females tend to have warm colors.
