
"And just then, the volcano behind her erupted, the very land shaking with her tremendous power! Even the ground cracked apart from her awesomeness!" He spoke, regaling what he'd seen the other day with a hearty air of confidence, as if the very sight had been burned into his mind.
"This sounds a lot like you made this up." She spoke in response, brushing off his exaggerated tale as she usually did.
"No, honest! I swear it happened!" He reiterated, his voice getting louder. The other children seemed to find it fascinating, and huddled around to hear the rest.
"So there she stood, hands on her hips, and lightning crackled around her l-like some kind of SUPER hero! Those Hillichurls stood NO chance once she-"
"I thought you said they were saurians." She scoffed.
"W-well there were those too, but they ran away as soon as the volcano bust open, spraying magma and lava all over the place, duh!!" He blushed. He might have been exaggerating what was going on, but she didn't need to poke holes in his story...
He went on for quite some time, detailing so many extra fantastical moves, like the hero jumping up "a thousand feet" and "causing the mountain to split open with a single attack" among other amazing feats.
There was some truth to these, even if they were greatly aggrandized, and a hungry bovine eagerly ordered another helping behind the children. She had saved them from a small attack of monsters earlier, after all, and it wasn't like she didn't enjoy another helping or five for a solid day's work.
Varesa smiled, partly because she did a great job, and partly because the soup was just.. really, really good.
