Boy, this was a fun recipe, considering I used fresh veggies and spices I bought from my local farmer's market. The only thing in this picture that is store-bought is the mozzarella sticks. I used regular cheese sticks and bread crumbs, as I bought store-bought Italian bread crumbs for the mozzarella sticks.
Air-fried Mozzarella Sticks
Pre-temp 390F
Italian bread crumbs
Egg wash mixed with water
Flour
Store-bought cheese sticks cut in half (you can use fresh mozzarella, but I was told it wouldn't melt as good)
Set up your traditional breading station: flour, egg wash, and bread crumbs. Dunking each stick in the flour, egg wash, and bread crumbs (personally, I dunk the sticks again in the egg wash and bread crumbs again). Store these in the freezer for an hour of course, I left mine in the freezer for more than an hour. After an hour goes by place them in your air-frier for 7 to 8 minutes.
Marinara Sauce
8 tomatoes
5 gloves of garlic
6 tablespoons of olive oil
Salt and black pepper (to taste)
1 large chopped onion
Basil, oregano, and 1 bay leaf.
A blender or food processor (I used a blender)
Start by chopping up your tomatoes, tossing them into your blender (the mixture will be pink), now you can blend until it's smooth or chunky, depending on how you like it. While that's blending, pour your olive oil into your pan (usually 6 tablespoons is fine), throw in your onions and garlic, cooking for 1 to 2 minutes, pour the pureed tomato, and allow it to cook on low heat for about 30 minutes. Now, your mixture will still be pink, but as it cooks and thickens, it'll turn red.
I'd recommend starting on your marinara sauce while your mozzarella sticks are chilling in the freezer.
