Most of the explanation is in the image so I'll skip that.
Long and short, for about a year now I've had a buildup of problems with different breeds in different ways! Arid drekir are kinda awkward to wedge into places as they override broader ecological and climatic things like tropic and arctic zones. Temperate drekir with hooves I feel isn't the fit I used to think it was (although I may keep them for alpine drekir, makes more sense for them)
but overall I want to try and capture a lot more of the regional variations of the places dragons live within the dragons themselves. The breeds were originally meant to be a reflection of the world around that, I feel as though I've somewhat failed with that and so this is just a rough concept of potentially righting that!
As for implementing it into the Long HIke?... Kinda hard to justify Forls hooves turning into Claws and Gilas fat tail goin on a diet. Mind you not impossible! The dragons did just start growing fur one day. That said I feel there are only so many massive shifts you can do before destabilizing continuity, in the past before The Long Hike I would just make a new canon after a certain point and start from scratch. Though obviously that isn't quite as much of an option these days as the comic has to maintain some degree of continuity... I guess unless it doesn't bug people but I understand a lot of the proposed changes here may be controversial
But to those who may want to respond
what do you think about the changes above? Agree? Disagree? Love it? hate it? let me know

I think it makes sense, the breeds were about them being adaptive to their environment I feel and this is really just an expansion of that, adding more flexibility.
Incorporating it into TLH wouldn't bother me since I have this context, though it might be jarring to people who don't see this.

The rule in most instances is the easier a character is to draw, the more you see of them. Adding complexity like the South American versions pretty much makes them unlikely to appear in the comic.
Different drekir are nice, but the cultures hiker runs into are more interesting to me than if someone has hooves or feathers.
