Goblinoids are present in the Basin in significant numbers, and are the most numerous of the races that are not part of Ardea and the Baronies. Though often thought of as primitive, unsophisticated, brutish cannibals, most goblins exist peacefully in the Basin, eking out a simple life as hunter-gatherers. Hobgoblins are more intelligent and much larger, but are tremendously territorial - they tend not to tolerate each other except to breed, and even then a female will violently reject her mate once she tires of him. They search out goblins to lord over, jealously guarding their tribe against rivals.

Goblins are sometimes encountered in the Baronies in a non-hostile setting. Though not given to intellectual pursuits, their inborn curiosity and relative fearlessness allows them to succeed in a variety of roles, from magewright or residue farmer to academy alchemist or skyshark-wrangler. Interestingly there are more goblin adventurers than hobgoblin adventurers by a wide margin, likely owing to the latter's rigid territoriality. That said, there are exceptions to every rule, including the story of a hobgoblin who rose to become Grand Marshal of the Skyguard, who considered the Order to be his tribe.
