So I went out and picked out two baby emperor scorpions. They were born I think March 21, 2010..so they're still tiny. I was surprised that they're still this small!
Anyways, the guy was selling them for $5.00 a piece. I picked out the two largest...and I've no idea if they're males or females or one of each. I only picked them up long enough to put them into the carrying container, and then again into their ten gallon. They are so small!
And so pudgey and cute looking O_O...These are my first pet scorpions ever, so will see what happens! They didn't seem angry at me either when I was trying to move them around..neither tried to stick me and they didn't even try to pinch me. They still have white around their stinger though. Anyways, they're in their ten gallon now with tiny crickets and plenty of places to hide and burrow. I'll probably get more stuff later but for now this is good.
I'm excited! Sorry this picture was blurry. My camera was being stupid about the zoom feature. x.x...will try to get better later. Meanwhile, here's some links of other pics I took.
In one of the pictures there's one of those weird nut things for screws..that's to show how big they are. They're so tiny! (The nut thing is about the size of a dime, if not smaller)

Also, I know I've seen some rather rude comments about scorpions and spiders on other people's pictures..
If you have something NEGATIVE TO SAY, DON'T say it here. If you SAY anything negative about killing it or how disgusting they are, etc, your comment will be hidden AND you will be blocked.
Just because you don't like them or think they're ugly or scarey doesn't mean you have to go and be rude about it to those who don't think so. They are my PETS. They are family. So please be courteous and leave the hateful comments off of here. ^^

I'm still new to it as well hun..to be safe, I picked them up the same way I've seen others pick them up...they didn't like it but they didn't go crazy on me either. I don't want to handle them any time soon only because they're so tiny and pudgey and I don't want to hurt them. xD
How were you taught to pick em up? I've seen some people just scoop them up, and others pick up by the stinger. I pick the stinger method just in case. I know one of my guys is ornery and the other one is chill. XD At that size tho I think their sting/pinches would be absolutely harmless.
I was very cautious and picked them up by their stingers (which is how I've seen others do it)...though I think in the future when they're bigger I'll scoop them up. Right now I don't know their temperaments and I don't want to risk them getting angry and stinging me - or me instinctively jumping and flinging them XD...I'm sure as they're older I'll feel better about them. But as I said..I've had tarantula's before..but never a scorpion. And I've only held an adult emperor's once back in high school. After that I've had that "Eh...don't...want...to..touch.." but, I'm over my slight nervousness now. Now its just the fact I don't want to hurt them or cause any major stress. These guys are fiesty though, even though they didn't freak on me. They were 'running' in their container as I brought them home. Now they're chilling in corners of their 10 gallon.
I think I'd be more comfortable scooping babies than adults, my two are HUGE and would do more damage than little ones.
That's why I don't scoop too in case they do sting and I flip them across the room. XD I heard most emperors have good temperaments and take a LOT of pestering to sting/pinch.
The dude I bought them from handles them like there kittens. Picks em up, moves them, everything without second thought. It's scary. XD

Yeah! Well, next time I'll try scooping them. The guy I got them from was like "I'm not touching them. The scorpion was my son and he handles them...but I'm not gonna stick my hand into a pile of unhandled new scorpions.." and I agreed with him! For now I think I'm just going to leave them alone. I didn't pinch them too hard..just held them long enough to move them. Even when I stuck my finger and sort of touched the top of one it just sortta ignored me..but then scittered away. xD
General misconception... If it is venomous and young their toxin tends to be a lot worse since they don't know how to control the amount they should excrete. Highly uncommon to get a "dry bite" if it's an infant. :3
Luckily it would seem most people are not effected by their venom. :3

I know! These were the two biggest ones! I was like "Holy crap..so tiny...but these two are beasts compared to the others!" I didn't realize it took so long for them to grow..but wow! And yeah they are! The guy said he thinks these two were the ones eating all the crickets..because there was one that looked like it had just been born and looked rather thin...its kinda why I chose the bigger two because they're obviously the good and healthy ones.
haha nice! The guy said his female doesn't even sting hers. She eats them live. I'm more or less leaving them alone now - though i did toss a few tiny crickets in their cage. Do you leave your crickets in all the time or do you take out what they don't eat? I'm just wondering that way I can go in and try to catch the baby crickets they don't eat.
o.o Oh well that's good its not harmful then. I always love looking at them in pet stores but I always though they remove the gland that has the toxin but the babies who are born with it seemed deadly. Thanks for clearing that up though, its been wondering in my mind for a while. x3
Yeah..removing the glands for toxins will KILL scorpions if I'm not mistaken. Same thing with most snakes and spiders..
And I don't think they're any more dangerous than the adults right now. Their stings are so tiny that itd feel like a minor splinter really and they wouldn't even have enough to do any damage to me.

Yeah, with these guys it was hard to tell. I'm no expert on it..but maybe when they get older I'll try to get a picture and have someone tell me. For now..I'm content with just letting them roam. I'm okay with whatever genders I have. I don't know if I want to breed scorpions or not - I have snakes for breeding. xD
And that sucks about the three dying. :<

They're itty bitty.
I've actually never seen them being so small at their age. And you said these were the biggest? o.o
Deadpool was about 7.5 inches long. He was huge.. XD
Lilly might be 5.
I'm not going to reach in there and measure her. lol
Wait till they're older; as they're prolly very sensitive right now to different light, but if you put a blacklight on them they'll turn bright neon green.

Oh wow. yeah. These guys if you looked at the picture with the nut aren't that big either. I think the guy wasn't putting the proper sized crickets in his cage..when I saw the set up for the mom (Where these guys were at) he had big crickets in there. So I'm assuming they were getting scraps.
Hopefully while I have them they'll grow bigger and faster. I've got crickets in there now that are the super tiny ones. I'll even add in mealworms later if you think that's a good idea. Unfortunately I don't think I have a black light right now. xD

The way they say about taking care of the young I've seen be done with both young scorpions and to tarantulas. : 3 In Albany we had to help build a temp exhibit for Arachnids. Some where actually pretty dangerous.... D: Like the baboon spider ( Pterinochilus murinus )Which is known to be aggressive and bite first then threat display. I'm not sure if they had the King baboon spider or not... which is known for having very strong venom.. although no tarantula is deadly to humans unless allergic. : x ( a bite from a baby of that species can cause sharp pain and strong hallucinations and the place of the bite would remain itchy for five days. )

Yeah, that's what I figured. So far these guys haven't even tried pinching me yet. The only time one did it wasn't even hard..he was more or less holding onto my hand because I was trying to gently lift him up by his stinger and he didn't want to go anywhere. xD
I just took another one out today and it was the same thing - no pinching, no stinging..just wanted to explore. I also learned how to use paper or something thin to slowly scoop them up without having to hold their stinger. I was trying to check their bottoms but they don't like being touched xD
