Random Character Studies
So, a long time ago in an art room far far away, there was an artist who couldn't ever really bring herself to sketch just for the sheer joy of sketching. Every time she put pencil to paper, she had to take that drawing to completion...inks, color, the whole deal. Well, kind people on this website started telling her that her art would improve greatly with a few tweaks and changes...sketching more was one of those tips.
Seriously, a year or so ago, I did that "tell the artist what you really think about their art" journal thingy that was floating around, and several of you commented with thoughtful responses. Thanks to you guys, I see noticeable improvement in my art. I appreciate you guys taking the time to tell me what you though so very much. You guys where right, I needed to sketch and do gesture and line work more.
So, that being said, here's some character studies I did today because I was just in the mood to pretty much sketch all day.
Skye---Been a while since I drew her. My style's changed, and she looks quite a bit different if I do say so myself. One of my "beefs" with the way I drew her was that she never really looked THAT much like a saluki to me. Well, I think I remedied that a bit in this. She looks a bit more laid back and confident in this picture than normal.
Janus---Working more with hubby's new look, and it gave me an excuse to draw him in his sexy uniform. Hooyah, Air Force! Loves himz German shepherd eurrrrrrz.
Wielder---One of the next commissions I'll be working on is a pinup of Wielder...it will be very tasteful, but I still have to work on poses for her and how they interact with her body type. What's she doing here? Leaning against a wall. Apparently she doesn't like what someone said or did, because it looks like she's pushing herself off, and getting ready to eat someones FACE.
Blackie (belongs to blackie5150)---Man, that boy can play the guitar in real life like he sold his soul! I'm tellin' ya! Plus, he's just adorable, and I miss drawing him. Used a reference for his pose because I know absolutely shit about playing a guitar.
Deyna (belongs to tibbywolf)---One of the sweetest people in the fandom by far and one of the only reasons I stick around (including Blackie). Deyna's got several interests, but I don't think she's ever had her character drawn playing a violin. Again, pose referenced.
Ben---Otherwise known as Obi-Wan Kenobi. Obviously modern ObiWanz from a little sidestory I've been working on called "Reset". Seems he's rushing to work through the crowded city streets or something...eating a bagel as he runs...himmmsa cute..
Anyway, I tried to put a bit of the characters' individual personalities and a bit of their stories into each drawing. I hope it worked!

Awesome drawing, Wielder! Ummm... Obi wan looks as handsome and sexy as always... and the German Shepperd guy with military clothes (your hubby, isn't it?) remember me to a certain guy I met :P
And maybe the best design is Wielder, as always, with your awesome hair!
Love them ^^

What the ever-loving hell?
I'm sorry, but the artist has every right to draw whatever she wants, without being accused of 'ignoring people'. You talk like this, and it sounds to me like some of you may not be true friends of her, but people trying to ride her coat-tails for attention and popularity.
I don't know who you are, but how DARE you try and guilt an already generous person into trying to just hand out free art. This is exactly the reason so many of us artists just become embittered, jaded people who keep to ourselves because the moment we show kindness to anyone, everyone is clamoring for a piece of the pie, screaming they aren't getting their share.
Seriously- f off.

Normally, I try not to be rude. Normally, I try to respond in a level-headed manner to almost every comment that comes my way. But, no, not on this one.
You know what? Last time I checked, it was MY paper, MY right hand, and MY pencil. I'll draw what I want, who I want (as long as I have their permission), when I want. Really, you were rude not only to me, but to Blackie and Deyna as well. It's BS that I can't draw a picture that is partially for my HUSBAND and my BEST FRIENDS without someone showing their ass on it.
And I really don't appreciate you attacking my personal choices either. It's none of your business who I put in my profile or why I put them there.
Why you found the need to say this, I'll never know. It's none of your business, and it won't be tolerated.

Now that I've gotten my thoughts together, I'll say this and be done with it.
First off Wielder doesn't owe me a DAMN thing! Unless it's a commission I've paid for, I can't see any other reason why she would. Hell I wouldn't even bother asking to rush something like that because it takes time and energy. Two it doesn't matter if she draws me, any of my characters, or other peoples, it's like everybody else said above me it's her choice. Three, so what if I'm not at the top of her page. Hell she's had me up there before so I don't see what the problem is. As far as i know, I'll probably be up there again one day. The fact that I'm her friend in real life and a good one at that is fair enough. It's a shame I had to call and talk to her about this but hey man you started it.
With all this being said, I strongly believe you owe not only Wielder an apology but the other (real) people in this picture an apology. Hopefully you'll do it and move on to reflect about your actions and what you said. As far as I'm concerned I'd do it sooner than later.

Hokay....time for me to weigh in........(notices some heading for the exits when I uncorked that Grimjack smile). It's been months since I've been involved in controversy.
I'm one of
wielder's friends. Outside of one illustration that featured my character Carc with 'Slide and Wielder, Carc or I haven't been drawn by Robin. However, that's the way it goes. I understand she's occupied with commissions and those "I have GOT to draw THIS" illustrations. One day, she may draw Carc and/or 'Slide again; but I won't beg/whine/threaten her to do so.
In my Sanctimonious Sanctum/Studio, I occasionally get someone who WANTS me to draw and feature their fursona/character in Carc & 'Slide. If the person's a friend or a good associate, I do just that. However, acquaintances and total strangers, I decline to do so. Oh, they swerve on me harder and faster than a WWE wrestler. I just ask them how far do they want to take it. The best they do is scamper to their l'il friends and get them to cheapshot and threaten me.
You want to see mixing, check out Carc & 'Slide. I've around fifty characters that'll get some trigger-time as the series progresses. Not only that, but I run some unique species.

Okay, now that I'm no longer amped up on tard-rage, how about a real comment?
Skye- have always loved this character, and I think this quick sketch is probably one of my favorite pics of her that you have done. Something about her pose, the way she is dressed, the tilt of her head accentuating her long nose, feathery ears and etc. really does it for me. I also love her slightly more unkempt bangs with the glasses pushed up beneath them. I like the way you chose to dress her in the lacey tank top with the extra wraps and bangles and watch on her arms and etc. Cute style.
Janus- I like his new design you are shifting towards. I also like his neutral yet pleasant smile and eyes.
Wielder ( how dare you draw yourself! How dare you! Think of people you have never met you are ignoring that could have been drawn there! )- I like your expression and body language- almost as if... could you have forseen....? I do really like the ease and slope of the right side of her body here, and really like how you brought her left leg forward, and conveyed it well.
Blackie- I really like the posture and and so much character is added by the slight screwing up of his eyes. Great upshot on his head- a lot of people struggle with that view.
Deyna- I really like the marriage of the admirable toughness of her character in her expression and personality with the elegance of her clothing and the act of playing such a classic instrument as the violin. Very nice pic.
Obi-Wan/Ben- Obiwanz can't finish his bagel without fandom-wank.... Awwww... isn't he aderpable with his messenger bag?

Yey airforce :) These sketches look lovely and your artwork has always been so inspiring to me. You do a good job on making sure each character has their personality shining through. You have a very good grasp on your clothes and anatomy. Having been someone watching your artwork for a long time, I can see that you've improved. Keep shooting forward. <3
Once again I missed all the fun, LOL.
The postures and the clothing speak volumes about your abilities as an artist. I remember a time when most characters (in the defunct RR fandom anyway) were drawn in simple pants & shirt outfits in basic standing poses. So much more life is brought into these characters by the way you pose and dress them. They are very fluid, they look like real people you would pass on the street. Making them interact with inanimate objects (guitar and violin) adds another degree of realism. Although from what you've told me about Deyna she seems like the LAST person to put on formal wear and play a violin, LOL
Ben... is he rushing between classes or on his way to work? I laugh at that because I look just like that at shift change. Change the bagel to a breakfast burrito, and the messenger bag to a small duffel and you have a snapshot of my life. LOL

Ho God, when we throw a party...
I've really really tried to make postures and such more believable. Clothing comes with that. It used to be something I was pretty intimidated by. Everything pretty much wore jeans and a t shirt, but I finally started being a bit braver concerning clothes, and I'm glad that it's paying off. I wanted these guys to look like you'd see them on the streets or in believable settings.
Deyna is quite a character either drawn or in real life. She can bounce between being tough to being sweet. When I think of Deyna, I think of a quote my great-grandmother imparted to me many times in my youth "a lady never starts a fight, sweetheart, but she can damn sure finish one". Deyna's definitely a lady of that caliber. Deyna actually does play the violin in real life which works well since Blackie is a music addict. The both of them listen to a wide array of tunes, so I had to draw them with their respective instruments. A cute little couple of oddballs they are.
Ben...I figure Ben's a college professor of some sort. Most likely what we called adjunct faculty. Probably a philosophy teacher or an art history buff...maybe a double major. He's probably late because Wielder wouldn't give him his pants back or something...
Lol, I should draw him and DJ racing to work, lookin' at each other like "wait a damn minute..."
