June 20th, 2025 - Illustration I did over the week last week. This work was done for a workshop, where cool pro artists reviewed my sketches and gave advice. They chose this sketch out of three due to the relaxed and easy going feel of the drawing. Personally I wanted to draw Simon Revlo again, seeing as their dragon form was only so so. So this was my chance to try it again.
The main critic given from my sketch was that the perspective and form of the dragon was super loose. The remedy was to make a clay model of the dragon which took 2 days to finish. Which was perfectly timed since the third day, I got a portfolio review where the pro's saw my 4x6 arts and said I should do more of that style, so I went from the conventional paint style to what I do with my cards. Turned out quite nice. --- The background kept me in a snag. It went going from being a festival, turned into a ski resort, to just being sky, to finally settling on a farm. The hot air balloon also had a short time being a airship/blimp, but that was too angular and pointy, less relaxed than hot air balloons so that reverted fairly quick. At the end, I realized the hot air balloons had no passengers, so considering I had green on the ground and that it was a fantasy workshop, I made the riders goblin farmers. Seems fair.
What do you think of how the piece turned out?

This art style looks hard to do in a larger composition! Would be even harder in a vector program, where it can be scaled infinitely. The clouds look nice and fluffy! I wanna get better at those!
Hmmmm Simon looks like he's about to precariously fall off the clouds. Good thing he's uusing his big tail as an anchor.
