Yes and no. Marines are essentially infantry that serve on ships and do amphibious operations. It was not uncommon however to supplement marines with armed sailors to increase numbers.
As I said in the blurb, this is inspired by the battle of Fort Fisher where the US Navy landed a couple hundred marines, and over thousand sailors armed with pistols and cutlasses to storm the northeastern corner of the fort.
