I don't know if I've ever told anyone this, but I would REALLY love an anthro-starring boxing game in the same vein as Punch-Out. As far as I know, it does not exist yet. (No, Animal Boxing for the DS doesn't count because that game forces you to play as a human.) Part of me... wants to try my hand at it in the future. How hard can it be?
So far, I just got a sketch of some selectable protagonists, each trying to fight their own demons. I tried to base each of them off of... particularly non-threatening animals in order to really make them feel like underdogs. You got a hummingbird fighting addiction, a gecko fighting fear, a mole fighting gluttony, and a sloth fighting, well, sloth. Each has their own motivations for boxing and own arcs. I haven't come up with names for them, although the mole's loosely based off Arte from Earthquake Warriors RPG. I also haven't drawn any antagonists for them to fight. I do have to wonder, though, how hard it would be TO make a Punch-Out clone where they each have their own strengths and weaknesses.
The little splotch on the hummingbird's arm is supposed to be an injection scar. The splot on the mole's arm is... just an artifact of scanning the sketch.

A few people have tried it, and I think there may still be one in development. It's themed more as an underground fighting thing, or at least there's no boxing gloves involved (one opponent has tonfas to attack you with!). Can't remember the name, though it is on Twitter/X somewhere.
However, I feel like if you're gonna make such a game, you've got to be prepared. There's a lot of furries into boxing stuff, and they're not always normal or polite about it. One guy who was making a sorta Punch-Out style game quit, possibly due to horny furries. It may not have been the reason, yet I feel it may have contributed. You're gonna need to prepare to either ignore or block people if they get too frisky or creepy.
Still, it would be nice to see. Having different player characters to choose from is a cool idea, though I'm unsure how you'd do that. Best idea I can think of is to build your game first, or at least the basic mechanics, and then tweak each character's stats/properties to make them feel different. Otherwise, the choice would be more cosmetic than anything.
Whatever you decide, I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors!

Meh. I'm kinda used to that stuff. Things like penuses and such still gross me out, but it's nothing I can't just brush off and ignore.
As far as the game goes, this is just a concept for now, and I'm not sure how dead set I am at making a boxing game, since I've never made anything beyond a fatfur RPG in RPG Maker 2003 (though I did make a MUGEN character once in Marion from Lil' Monsters). Plus, I kinda have other ideas I want to see, too.
Still, who knows. It might be an idea I'll stick with, and I hope that once I learn how to actually code players and enemies, the rest should be simple enough.
