Now that the final page has been drawn this panel from the less convincing ending went unused so here it is by itself. Dunno if this really fits Hazel's character though, maybe its something more distant in their future.

It doesn't fit her normal character, but Violet explained what had happened and Hazel felt sympathy for what had happened to Violet. That could cause her to be a little less guarded about expressing affection.

That's kinda what the initial intent was, but it was such a weak resolution and a bit unbelievable still.

Well, yeah, it is a bit unbelievable but it isn't unheard of and poor Hazel has such a reputation that nobody would believe it even if they saw it with their own eyes.
